First thing is first... Vince Carter is good but he is not yet great. He has all the skills he just needs to push for that extra something, then he will be in that elite group. His defense is lacking and he hasn't shown the ability to step it up in the fourth like AI, T-Mac, Kobe, or Paul Pierce can.

Second, how can someone say that Iverson is over rated? It is a lot harder for someone at his size (6' not 6'5''-6'8'' like most other 2 gaurds) to get a shot off. He has to work that much harder. Why do you think he is one of the only players 6 feet or under to lead the leaugue in scoring? That is because it is a tough task. He doesn't have the liberty to shoot over most people or back somebody down. His shots come from screens or seperation by means of dribble.

His D is not great, but is not lacking, don't just quote media as being the truth.

Are you crazy? Vince is clutch. Vince is hella clutch. And if you're comparing Vince vs TMac in terms of clutchness, TMac has done SHYTE all. If you think TMac is more clutch than Carter, well, I guess we should all ignore your posts from now on. TMac has all of one or two game winning shot. AI, Kobe, yep, they're clutch. Paul Pierce... hmm, jury's still out, but he's a great player.

Vince Carter doesn't play great D. It's OK, it's just not Jordanlike. Vince is a very good shooter. Look at his FG#'s. Very good for a players FIRST four years. It's just not Jordanlike.

Vince Carter is a good B-Ball player, just not Jordanlike....which is the main reason why he's criticized. Everybody has expected him to win a title by now, even his own teammates(which is sad). He's injured for NOT EVEN ONE YEAR and people are saying he's washed up. I would put Vince's first four years in the league up with anybody's in the game's HISTORY first four years, of course with ALOT of exceptions(Magic, MJ, Wilt, Russell, Walton, Frazier, etc.). But he still was terrific in his first four years.

To fault Vince for a trend in many NBA "All-Star" caliber players isn't totally justified. I will not say that Vince is a great defender, because it would be a false statement. However, many players have limited, pourous or no defensive skills and are considered All-Stars. A major difference is they usually have another 20+ scorer which helps cover their weakness and keeps the team in the game. (ie. R. Allen = S. Cassell, A. Walker = P. Pierce etc.) Vince is a one man show and needs help (maybe it will come in the draft). I don't think he is capable of doing it alone. Granted there are exceptions to the one man gang rule (AI, KG).
I think the other questions regarding his game is just a media scapegoat with the team struggling (Nelly concert, heart, injury). No worse than other big time players AI ("It is practice man", summer of discontent with the PA cops), Kobe (questions about his ability to be a team player) and numerous drug and abuse cases with the daily squaking of players who don't want to play for teams they are on. These guys are over paid ego manics which come out in various ways. The entire league needs to drop the hip/hop thug image and develop players who respect the game, the organization and the fans that support them without all this rags to riches ghetto punk a$$ attitude. In the meantime Vince will be the flavor of the day, sure to be replaced by another soon.
