Re: Is the NBA coming back?

I'll see your low TV numbers with increased merchandising numbers and raise you all-time highes in attendance. Its BEEN back. The quality has degraded somewhat (too young, and too many teams, IMO) but the NBA still puts out an exciting, enjoyable product. Not as fundamentally awesome as 15 years ago, but still pretty great.

I love what Stern said on his Sunday conversation about whether the league could get back to the golden age of the late 80's early 90's. He laughed and said that the days of the epic Wilt vs. Russell battles, Celtic domination, and amazing performances by Roberston and Baylor of the 60's was a "golden age"...and Larry vs. Magic (early to mid 80's) era was a "golden age"...basically stating that all of these eras will always be compared to the previous one unfavorably ad nauseum.

When LeBron, Duncan, Kobe, Mac, PP, Wade, Bosh, Amare, JO, etc, etc, etc, all hang it up...this will be known as another "golden age" guaranteed.

i duno, this is the most exciting first round than i remember in a long time

lower seeded teams (aside from memphis) are seemingly playing it pretty tough against the higher seeded team

aside from dallas AND possibly detroit (losing by 20 to the bucks makes it iffy), there's no team that at this point, you could say will win their series for sure

Can't wait for the Bucks game tonight. I think they will tie it.

It would of been great if it were still 3 out 5. We would have some do or die deciding games coming up to watch.

we all thought it was back in 2000 with the lakers three peat and the great sixers/raptors and sixers/bucks playoff series... it never was.

            everyone has such short memories

Coming back? To me it never went anywhere. I don't pay attention to the ratings. I watch just about all the games and am really enjoying them.

Re: Is the NBA coming back?

I've been absolutely loving the NBA Playoffs this year. My friends and I have watched just about every game. Exciting finishes, amazing individual efforts, an increase in "team basketball" (Kobe Bryant!), and just an overall good experience.

The ratings might not be there to back this up, but I feel sorry for all the people who aren't tuning in, because they are missing one hell of a show! I didn't think anything could top this year's NCAA Tourney, but so far I have enjoyed the NBA Playoffs as much as March Madness.

And KDRE, I disagree that the first round is "predictable" and "unwatchable". What about the Kings? Bulls? Lakers? Who in the world is Kevin Martin? When did Kobe finally decide to stop forcing shots and instead get his teammates involved? I agree that the first round might benefit by going back to the 5-game format, but to call what has happened so far "unwatchable" is injustice.

Oh, and one more thing: GO BULLS!

Re: Is the NBA coming back?

Is the NBA coming back?? Well, I personally think it never left. It just changed its style and got some attitude. Not a positive thing in my opinion. Stars are flushed out more and given unfair treatment. I'm sure that eventually this game will degrade once again if the refs put their hands on everything. I'm definitely curious to see what the new Commissioner of the NBA will do when Stern drops down. In all essence, whatever Stern does now will probably be worse later. Those years were golden years. Now, it's not the same.

I think a lot of people look at the game different. If it was played by some, then it could be seen different than it would if it was only watched by some.

I've been watching the games a whole lot more than in past years. That Lakers/Suns game last night was incredible.
