WHY are people comparing Lebron to MJ??

I do not understand this at all.

First it was Grant Hill, then kobe, then Vince, now Lebron.

None of these guys will never be jordan. NEVER. I just sat at my laptop and watched a foolish Scottie Pippen say that he would take Lebron James at year 3 then he would mike jordan at year 3. I think ESPN purposely had him say this because anybody dumb enough to say this or believe this is just funny. Lebron plays in one of the worst era's of basketball were the league is soft and defense is a non issue. Jordan took his team to the playoffs his 1st yr. He scored a playoof record 63 points against the celtics who went on to win the series were lebron is actually being contained. Lebron has never won a scoring title, an mvp, an all star mvp, anything. Yes he is breaking records its because he is young. anything he does will probable break a record because he came out of high school. And the only think you can say as to why does not have any of these things is what? He hasnt played that ong and that is exactly my point so how is he even a 1/5 of jordan??? Everybody needs to get this though their head. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER MICHEAL JORDAN!! OR ANY OTHER GREAT!! WILT,MAGIC,BIRD,ETC!!

Re: WHY are people comparing Lebron to MJ??

    Take it easy.

Edit: With respect to "why", I think we all know why, and it's because LeBron's doing things at age 21 that haven't been done by anyone at that age. The list of crap is actually too long to even start laying out here.

But generally I agree. No, there will never be another Jordan... and I dont think you can compare too many players to him. And definitely not LeBron, because he's a completely different type of player.

e.g. I heard Kobe say (halftime Gm 5) that he wishes he was as big as LeBron at age 21. Maybe... but then he wouldn't be Kobe anymore. He probably wouldn't be quick or dextrous enough to score 81 points in a single game. He'd be a better rebounder and probably a little less elfish with the ball.

Let me tell you something about LEBron though: 10-15 years from now, we'll be comparing players to HIM instead of the other way around.

      Great post.

There really needs to be a "There will NEVER be another MJ" sticky. Seriously.

Bron was #3 in scoring, #2 in MVP voting, and he was the All-Star MVP...all at an age where MJ was still wearing Carolina Blue. Also, while MJ made the post season in his 1st 3 seasons, the Bulls were below .500 all 3 years. Sneaking into the playoffs wasn't much of an accomplishment when you consider that before expansion there were only 23 teams, and 16 of those teams made the postseason. Only 7 teams DIDN'T make the playoffs.

Of course you can't compare Lebrons young career to MJ's 14 years of accomplishments, MJ is clearly the G.O.A.T....but comparing LB after 21 years of development vs MJ after 21 years of development, arguments can be made, even though they shouldn't be made.

I'd think that Pip has a wee bit more credibility than the average internet poster, but I wish he wouldn't put LeBron out there like that. Bron is obviously better right now than MJ was as a college player, but he's still got a long way to go before he can touch MJ's complete legacy. Like it's been stated, he could easily bang a knee and never fulfull his potential.

In a perfect world, they would just leave MJ's name out of things...All any comparison does is piss off Mikes devoted fanbase, and needlessly creates haters out of thin air for the youngster. A good kid like James doesn't deserve that. Like Blahzie said, LeBron's game is NOTHING like MJ's, and we'll all be witnessess to something new, like it or not.

Man do people overact. To the OP...Pip said he'd take LBJ as a 3rd year player "because he's learnt to dominate games whilst sharing the ball"...

It took MJ years to get that...

Right now, LBJ's is probably slightly ahead. AS THIRD YEAR PLAYERS.

By years 5 onwards...MJ went to a level no man on earth has gone.

Whether LBJ can go that high, I doubt it. Nothing wrong with that though.

Personally, I see more of Magics game in LBJ than Mikes anyway...

If you want to say LeBron is better as a 21 year old, thats hard to argue considering Jordan was in college but to say LeBrons third year is better than Jordan's third year is ridiculous. Jordans third year was the year he averaged 37 pts a game. But I agree that he's more like Magic than MJ.

Like Mike Golic said to Greeny(I'm paraphrasing a bit) "Get your nose out of MJ's butt". The kissing motion is getting out of hand. Do you have a date with Jordan afterwards?"
The concept that MJ is basketball's second coming is getting tiresome to me. He is certainly the sport's greatest ever player and a decent guy to boot but to say another great player will NEVER achieve his level is premature. The kid is barely out of diapers. I wasn't to thrilled with Scotty's comments suggesting that Nash shouldn't have gotten the award over Lebron.

James is just a prospect, waiting to be developed. We will see.
If some of you start forgetting how unbelievable Jordan's game was just watch some tapes. No one reached or even touched that level since.
Plus, there is one thing which makes Jordan better and that is the fact that his game was COMPLETE. He was a complete player.

Well its true. I like watching LeBron play and he is clearly the best players since Jordan. But actually Jordan was THAT good whether youre tired of him or not. Golic also acknowledged that the NBA was far superior then compared to now but I notice you neglected to mention this. Golic also took the position that LeBron was more athletic at this point but Greenberg was actually correct on this. It seems Golic likes guys who are more filled out-- like football players. And Greenberg was right about Jordans unequalled explosiveness to the basket.

Magic joined a great team and his greatness put them over the top, especially when it mattered the most. But Lebron is his own man with his own game. His size, strength, skills, and raw talent are one of a kind in a total package. For all the guys who say there will never be another great player are just like the guys who said there will never be another dominant center after Wilt (Shaq), Another dominant PG after Oscar (Magic), another dominant high flyer after Dr. J (MJ), etc...

Let's just sit back and watch one of the many young great talents in the league right now, although he has all the makings of being the best when it is all said and done.
