Comparatively, MJ's 6'6" with hops was no disadvantage in the mid-80's when the average guard size was I believe (memory-based) closer to 6-3/6-4ish vs the 6-5/6-8, more athletic guards today, but thats moot, MJ was clearly a better defender by default, because at this point, Lebron is a below average ball defender and "Help D" isn't in his vocab (shame since he's so explosive) Bronny was #2 in steals his first year, but has stopped gambling as much, but I don't think he'll ever reach MJ's defensive level. I think his vision is going to make him a better playmaker over the years, and if you think MJ made Pip look good, LB is going to make guys into Superstars over the next few. LeBron is also not far from avg right around 10 boards per, which would also be an advantage.

Also, you can't just throw out team sucess. Its just plain fact, LeBron nearly eliminated the best team in basketball by himself. The Cavs had 17 wins when he was drafted, and in just 3 seasons, they are a sereious competitor. The Bulls were no worse than the Cavs were when both guys got there.

When it's said and done I think there will be no comparisons that fit LeBron, just like there were none that fit His Airness...

Can we end the LBJ and MJ comparisons folks...they are different players.

We don't debate Magic v MJ...we just accept they were both different, yet great.

This kid is somewhere in between them as a player...

In 20 years, we'll be saying Magic, MJ and LBJ were all great...and all different.

Scottie Pippen was a good player. He had a nice all-around game, but it an insult to 49 other players and dozens when were not listed amongst the 50 Greatest ever for Scottie Pippen to be included with that group.

Pippen won 6 Championships WITH and ONLY WITH Michael Jordan on his team. I would argue that there were 10-15 players you could have replaced Scottie Pippen with in those years and still won.

What did Scottie Pippen do without MJ?

NOTHING...

ZERO...

You can't compare MJ and LeBron because of the Eras alone.

When MJ played... you could hand-check and they actually called offensive fouls when you lead with the off-arm.

LeBron leads with the off-arm on EVERY drive that he takes to the hoop and hand checking is an immediate whistle.

The difference is, MJ had to take on teams like the '86 Celtics all by himself. This years Pistons are good sure, but the '86 Celtics are mentioned by any NBA historian as one of the top 5 best EVER teams. Big difference.


Well I'm about argued out in this one. My points in a nutshell.

A. Pippen is/was a moron
B. Comparing Lebron to MJ at this stage is stupid. At any stage might be stupid too.
C. Lebron is a great player who may end up being a legend.
D. MJ is the G.O.A.T. and it will take a miracle to change that. But it will happen some day, it always does. But right now, he's Babe Ruth plain and simple. Your grandkids will ask you about him before anyother player you've seen and maybe have yet to see.

It's so natural to compare LeBron and Kobe to Jordan, but the true test to their potential legacy will be whether they're known as the next Jordan or set a new standard where players are compared to them. What made Jordan the "greatest" is he broke past the barrier that compared a player of his caliber to Dr. J -- creating your own legacy is the barometer.

As for the thought of if Jordan would have lost a 3-2 or 3-1 lead, I'd argue there's a good chance he could have lost that lead in the '80s vs. the Celtics. That's also the key in comparing these guys. It is unfair to compare anyone to Jordan over his complete career, but say comparing LeBron to Jordan in the '80s is fair.
