Re: A young kid to look out for...

They key reasons why Newley just might have a shot are that he is a multi dimensional player...a guy who can handle the ball and also play SG and SF...who is good in the open court...

The reality of it is that the NBA is going more and more towards that type of player...multi dimensional guys who can play in the open court...

He'd have had absolutely no chance at all 15 years ago...

The fact he has a reasonable J (at times) is a bonus...some guys are getting drafted nowadays simply because they're versatile and have no J at all...

Tems draft for need / style they want to play...rather than who is the best player. (I'll never forget the Rockets taking Bryce Drew over Rashard Lewis as Coach T loved 'spot up shooters' )

I don't agree with the Manu comparison except that he can play the same positions. IMO he's very similar to Brent Barry. Well, BB of ten years ago...

He also has the 'right' people behind him and pushing his case...something that's probably just as important as being able to actually play...

I'll be surprised if he's not taken in the second round. After that, it's up to him...

    ADDED

I'll just add that his rookie season was exceptional. I talked to guys who played against him (Internationals) and they all said he had the most 'natural' talent they'd seen in the NBL for well over a decade. Guys who've played in multiple leagues and multiple international tournaments.

His second season wasn't as good. He did improve in key categories though..i.e. assists doubled, rebounding improved a lot.

Andrew Bogut going number one helps him also. "Flavour of the month" and all that...

He's getting noticed by the right people anyway.

Again, he's lucky he's got some very good people behind him...
