    Sir Charles in his prime

Where Amazing Happens. Discuss all things NBA here, including the history of the game, player comparisons, regular season games and much more.

This is why I say he's one of the two best Power Forwards in the history of the game, along with Karl Malone. He's my third favorite player of all time, after MJ and Magic.

    Charles was a damn beast.

Wow that was great, I can't believe how fast he was when he was in Philly. They kinda look like lebron james highlights. The 93 playoffs was great until....Paxon shot...

Two more player like Barkley in the NBA now would have David Stern shouting for the old rules to be back. In todays NBA, Barkley is not human. But at least he never sold his pride to CHI for a championship ring opportunity unlike Malone who joined LAL. Though I still shiver the thought of Barkley joining UTA during thier reign in the West.

Well he did go to Houston... and from memory had 33 rebounds in game 1 of the season, then took a holiday after that.

Yes, but he came when Olajuwon was declining very fast plus they are not a championship team anymore. Olajuwon and Drexler were done after they won thier last championship. They are nothing more than a playoff team. Malone and Stockton was in the height of thier prime while all of them in HOU was running in cough fumes from the glory days. CHI was a lot younger and the favorite just like the Shaq-Kobe era.

Charles is like the shorter but stronger than Bron. If you are only 6'4" or 6'6" and you can hold your ground against the young Shaq without fouling him even if you are coughing fumes, you have to be pretty tough like a wall.

Now I just wish I could download that clip together with Karl Malone and Patrick Ewing because I wanted to convert it to DVD.

Charles was a friggin mutant. A 6-4 Power forward that could rebound, score, and play d. He had one of the quickest and most powerful verticle ever. Ultra competitive and use to punk floors on the court. We will never see another player like Charles.

on top of all that, chuck became a deadly three-point shooter in PHX when they moved the line in a bit. The Round Mound was BEAST.

I loved Sir Charles. Absolutely loved him.

But he doesn't belong on any "greatest lists"...and it's his own fault.

He hardly ever played D and he was NEVER in shape.

He should have been the best PF ever. He was an absolute beast. Unstoppable when posting up (the 5 sec backdown rule was a result of his being so good - and backing down forever!)...amazing on the boards...

Very good passer for a big...

                          Had some range...

Just a great, great player...but man was he out of shape.

Michael Jordan, his best friend in the league, always said it. "Charles will never win a championship because he doesn't have the dedication"...

And MJ loves him like a brother...but it was true.

Imagine Charles natural talent...with Karl Malones dedication to fitness...and think what Charles could have been...

                            Good points, Monk...

I agree with MJ...that he showed a lack of dedication, but then again, I don't know if Chawles would have been the great player he was if he weren't so wide and skrong early in his career. Even with the weight he had a bad back, because he was used that wide body to smothered dudes when he boxed-out (the lost art). Once he lost the weight though, (in PHX) his back problems really got bad. Luckily, he had matured enough as a player to move his game outside, and ironically that was him at his best...MVP-calibur..but if he had come into the league at that size, I don't think Chawles had the perimeter game (handles, range) out of college to become the standout he was.

                              All true Mac.

Charles bulk helped with his post game. The main thing was his off seasons though. He used to hardly do anything.

Jordan used to say Charles would be out there playing golf all off season.

People also say that the Rockets team he was were "past their primes". Yes. However...that team still took Utah to the brink that first season. One bad call (moving screen that blocked Glyde from getting any D on Stockton) and the Rocks may have won.

The fact NONE of Houstons big three were close to "fit" that season...yet went within a few points of making The Finals...showed that maybe if Charles had of been a little bit fitter, things could have been different.

Dream and Clyde had their rings. Dreams knees were gone. Drex was in his last season.

Charles needed to take them to the ring that year. He came in, as Admiral said and grabbed 30 plus rebounds one night...and then really cruised.

He was pretty much badly out of shape come the WCF...while Malone and Stock were rock hard fit.

Maybe just a little bit more conditioning and Charles stops one or two of Malones buckets that series and scores a bit more himself.

There's a very...very...fine line between being a "champion" and not winning a ring. I just felt like Charles was never prepared to really bust his nuts and go over that 'line'.

Even Jordan, with Charles work ethic, would never have won a ring.

Jordan always said Charles wasn't prepared to "work" for it. Remember how MJ, even though he loved Charles like a brother, never pushed to get him as a team mate. Even towards the end when Charles was available. MJ never wanted him beside him.
