read today that the same thing happened to Tyson Chandler before he came out. Maybe it was because he was from Compton.

The kid is doing the right thing.
I mean, if you're going to get millions, how can you turn it down? I know I couldn't.

It's the NBA thats making the problem. Picking all these kids that aren't ready to play.

Tim Duncun wasn't the equal of Joe Smith or Rasheed Wallace in college.
Smith was easily the best of the 3. He left, then Rasheed left.
But Duncan stayed for all four years, polished up his game and the rest is history.

What the NBA needs is a real minor league system. No one complains when MLB kids come out of high school and go into the minors, why should be complain when basketball players do it.
The difference is MLB has a system where the kids can play night in and night out. Instead of sitting on the bench getting 5 or 6 minutes a game the first few years like the NBA kids.

Isn't that what the NBDL is for? The minor league of the NBA?

Good post on the Duncan, Rasheed, Joe Smith thing. I forgot about that.

yes, but that league is a joke right now!....
I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

You can't fault the league for offering contracts to kids that enter the draft. If you play that card it is the players union that is a fault for letting 18 year olds enter the draft. They pushed that through, regardless of what it is doing to the game. The league has stated many times they would like an age limit. Kudos to Duncan (and any other player) to be intellegent enough to look past the easy money and know they weren't ready and improved their game.
The league is a competitive business and if a kid is 18 and has potential to be a superstar sure he will be drafted. It is within the terms of the players agreement. The problem is you have poor kids with bad influences in their lives that direct them toward the money. Bling bling is all that matters. It starts with a poor foundation (family) and esculates to the league we have now. Too many thug a$$ jocks that do not appreciate the opportunity that was provided to them, and think it is all owed to them. I see this kid as a mental case because it is obvious his support system sucks. Hopefully his antics off the court don't out weigh the game he brings to the court.
