Re: Reggie Miller: "You shouldn't stand behind a player that is ......
The key is when Jackson surrounds himself with people that want to bring him down. As an NBA player, he owes it to himself and to the team to not hang around these types of people.
I agree with what Reggie had to say here, he made a lot of sense, but you would think he was some sort of saint himself by reading that..Comment

Re: Reggie Miller: "You shouldn't stand behind a player that is ......
Q. Last year, Reggie Miller had attention drawn to him with his (later to be proven correct) comments concerning the franchise's lack of cohesiveness. Now, he's called out Stephen Jackson and the Pacers team for standing behind him. As an insider to how everything in Indy operates and someone who is still respected by the fans and members within the organization, does his statement perhaps signify the feelings of some of the players/management who have not voiced an opinion, and how much pressure, from the public or otherwise, will this put on management to act? (From Matt in Fayetteville, Ark.)
A. It's interesting how a guy's perspective can change when he no longer is part of a franchise. When Reggie was a leadership figure with the Pacers, he was the last player to even hint at public criticism of a teammate, including Ron Artest. He was very much a team guy, a franchise guy, and whenever the world aimed its arrows toward the Pacers, he was the guy circling the wagons. He was, above all others, the guy that fostered the Pacers-against-the-world mentality. Lest we forget, he loved being the enemy. When issues arose within the locker room, that's where he kept them; he was a strong believer in handling team matters internally and not airing dirty laundry. I'm fairly certain if he was still playing he would be saying many of the same things other Pacers players have said in the aftermath of last week's incident, primarily expressing concern for Jackson's well-being. And he'd be absolutely right.
Now that he is viewing things from a distance, he has reacted in basically the same way as many fans. He's frustrated and angry, emotions that were clear in his words. On Dan Patrick's ESPN radio show Monday, Reggie described the incident as "a black cloud" and "a punch in the gut for Donnie Walsh and Larry Bird." He then criticized the players for offering their support and concern for Jackson and even suggested Rick Carlisle's practices weren't hard enough if players had the energy for late-night club visits. (Not that it's particularly relevant to the bigger points, but an agreement with the player's union limits the amount of time a team can allot for practice during training camp, and the 3-hour sessions at Conseco Fieldhouse have been far more strenuous than usual because of the emphasis on playing a quicker tempo at both ends of the court.)
These are all very natural reactions and responses to the situation, shared by fans around the country. No one is happy about what happened, inside or outside the franchise. At the very least, the players involved showed a serious lapse in judgment, and that much has been said. But Walsh and Bird must make completely sure they learn as many of the facts about the incident as possibly before going public with the franchise's position. They cannot afford to offer an emotional response; theirs must be fully measured. Harsh words like those from Reggie, therefore, may amplify the public outcry but ultimately have little or no effect on what action the franchise will take.Comment

Re: Reggie Miller: "You shouldn't stand behind a player that is ......
Yet you comment on his situation?
Give me a break. Difference is, that was Reggie's personal life and it stayed that way.
This go around AGAIN might I add, is that this is Jax's personal life affecting the organization. That's where you have a problem. You can't blame Artest, or JO, he's the lone ranger here continuing the Pacers problems.
Reggie was out partying plenty of times, and he make plenty of dumb decisions.
The problem I have with this is the bad decision the players made. It was bad enough they decided to go out on a work night, which I dont think should be allowed at all but I wont knock them for it.
I do have a problem with Jackson apparent instigating the fight, and the more evidence that comes out the more I am seeing that he really did want to "fight" more then he wanted to walk away, which is what I have a problem with.Comment

Man I disagree with Reggie on this. Yes guys should stay out of trouble, but I'll be damned if my boss tells me I can't go out at night and stay out however long I want, and what places I can go. S Jax is a grown man, he can go to the club if he wants. He just needs to learn how to keep his nose clean. You can go out without causing a bunch of drama.
And yes Reggie did take his skinny behind to the Gold Club, he shouldn't be saying anything, he just tryin to look good, but he was out, he didnt shoot at anyone but he did go out late to places like that. I'm sure a bunch of other players do to.

Nothing personal, but a lot of people are making this comment without knowing the whole story.

I see what you are saying, but the people arguing the other POV are correct.

You know what Skins. The partying isnt my issue. Lots of players do that. Thing is, how many of them do you hear about shooting at people afterwards?
Sure Reggie went out, but Reggie didn't go out and party to the point that it began taking the Pacers down like a sinking ship.
If people are arguing whether he can go outside or not isn't even what Im discussing. My issue is with Jackson himself. Constantly causing issues. It's been years now. I was on Kobe for the same thing. Personal life causing the team problems. There has to be an end to this.Comment

Re: Reggie Miller: "You shouldn't stand behind a player that is ......
Clearly would have fixed this whole problem. I think that Reggie isn't tripping about the going out. It's the fact that Stephen had a gun and had the audacity to fire it. Yeah, people say that it was self-defense but the guys drove off. In the process of driving off, I'm sure they hit S.J. At this rate, he's going to die a tragic death. And with the Reggie Miller thing, there was no disregard for human life when he was giving backshots to those females. That was all in fun and sexual entertainment. The Stephen Jackson thing put people's life at risk. Guns are a no no.Sex is another story
.......
His first story was that he fired the shot because he was scared for his life, but as the other party has filed their police report and Jackson has changed his story, we are finding out Jackson kept talking trash to these guys and could have choosen to walk away. Instead he choose to esculate the insident and go and grab a weapon and discharge it into the air.Comment

1. No one shot at anyone. Jackson fired a shot in the air, that's it
You think Reggie didn't bring bad headlines when his inncident happened?
You don't think reporters were asking teamamtes about the inncident? You don't think that was a distraction
I would love for these guys to realize they are entertainers and not make mistakes, but they are human. I have been far from standing up for Jackson, but let's not act like Reggie has done no wrong and when he did his teammates stood behind him and just stayed quiet. That is the code of the NBA, and I think its ludicris of Reggie to call the team out for doing exactly what he had done throughout his whole careerComment
