Redd was called for palming or carrying last night. On opening night, Redd was called for hooking his other arm on a wrap a round. I think that is also good.
Yes, good that they called it, but who's fault is it that they let guys like AI come into the league plaming and carrying in the first place?

That's how this generation turned into a "imma cross u up" generation

        Re: Stern: Commish or Tyrant?

I love how everyone is calling Stern a tyrant and all. Yes he's made some questionable decisions over the past couple years and what we're seeing is mainly a blow back against the negative stereotyped image the NBA has gotten in the last 8-10 years.

Remember this, David Stern kept the NBA alive and pushed for the media hyping of the stars of the 80s such as Bird, Magic, Jordan, etc etc. He took over a league that had a lower profile at the time then the NHL and look at where the NBA is today.

So yes, I think what we're seeing these days is a harsh push to curb the negativity that surrounds the league. Sometimes one has to use extreme measures. Now, some of the rules and restrictions I don't like but overall Stern has tried his damndest to change the league's image. In some ways maybe this might be his downfall but I won't fault him for trying to make a positive change.

Bingo, especially the ticky tack fouls. Last night against the sonics smush parker pushed ray allen to get a pass, I'm talking full arm extension, tripped over his own two feet...and ray allen was called for the foul even though he was barely in the camera shot with smush. Tsk tsk tsk

Stern is a tyrant who is too consumed with non-gameplay issues. Dress Code, owner colde of conduct, age limit, new ball, etc., none of those address on court issues such as over agressive referees. This is actually a good time for the NBA with the great playoffs last season and the core group of stars being young and marketable. Somtimes it appears that Stern has to "prove" that he is in charge.

So making players put on a suit every once in a while and not letting them wear 17 arm bands makes dude a tyrant?

The NHL is a business too, all leagues, EPL, MLB, NFL, CBA are businesses. Look at what happened to the NHL after that 1 year lockout, everyone's absolutely enjoying it (especially in Canada). Even Carolina and some of those teams are attracting fans to come watch their games live. It just looks to me like a drastic change is needed in order to fix the NBA.

                    Re: Stern: Commish or Tyrant?

My biggest complaint is that he allowed the Pistons to dictate a style of basketball that would eventually lead to radically changing the rules and making statistical comparisons with greats of that era apples and oranges. But aside from that the changes that Stern has recently implemented has been good if not necessary. Im not a fan of the ball but its the people in the NBA who like to piss and moan that have made entirely too much out of the new ball. And Im kind of glad Stern is being firm as the commissioner. He knows its a business and have identified some of the reasons that those who watched in the Jordan era no longer do...and he is correct.

For the most part I'm a big fan of Stern, but he's definitely done some questionable stuff.

It's better, IMO, that he's trying to make the league too tight than too loose.

Actually MJ got away with a lot of hooking and traveling. The "get out of traveling for free" card didn't start with A.I.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

No it didn't, but the palming crossover trend got popular with him.

Does it improve the play on the court? No. Does it improve the image of the game or players. Yes.

It's all about marketing to the masses, young and old and everything in between.
