    Playoff Seeding Ideas

Kinda bored watching the Bulls-Wiz game..

Randomly thought about how it'd be neat if they gave the top seeds the opportunity to choose who they played in the first round. And as the playoffs proceeded, the top seeds still alive could continue to choose who they played in the following round. Think this would work at all?

Any other random alternative ways you guys can think of to the current playoff setup?

4 teams from each conference only would be just fine.

Scratch the Eastern and Western conferences and just seed the top 16 teams.

I'd make it like the NFL, 6 teams get in from each conference with the top 2 getting first round byes. Too many teams make the playoffs. I'd also change the first round back to a best of 5, and maybe the 2nd round as well.

I could definitely roll with this idea, and actually was almost about to post the same exact thing with an ode to the NFL. Taking this year as a prime example.. the current top six teams in each conference really do deserve a spot in the post season.. the teams fighting to get the last spots really don't deserve to play past the regular season.

Wouldn't have many Eastern Conference teams.

No way. Too much possibility for flukes in a best of 5 series. Best of 7 is only way to really determine who the best team to advance is.

In that case, why even play the series at all?

I like the 16 teams as I've been an Os fan in baseball and any AL East fan can tell you how much fun small playoffs are when the two best franchizes are in the same division, as would be the case in the East with the Cavs, Bulls, and Pistons.

Just take the top 8 teams in each conference and seed by records, getting rid of the divisions.

The NBA would have to change the regular season schedules. The east vs the west will need to play more then twice a year..

If a team is clearly better, they won't lose 3 out of 5 games with homecourt advantage to an inferior team. The playoffs are too damn long.

Cut the number of playoff entries to the top four seeds (by record, regardless of division title) of each conference.

Having 82 games to eliminate less than half the league from playoff contention is ridiculous. More teams make the playoffs, then miss them, which altogther defeats the purpose.
