I love to see Ben Wallace being mentioned for MVP honors, as he deserves it. However, my vote goes to Kevin Garnett hands down, with Tracy McGrady and Tim Duncan tied for second place.

        Garnett IS the T-Wolves.

Shaq doess have a nice argument though over in LA for the MVP, look at how bad LA did at the beginning. LA's record while Shaq was out will probally keep Kobe from winning it.

MVP in every sport needs to be redefined. There needs to be an award given to "The Best Player" in the league and an award for the "Most Valuble Player", i.e. most valuble to his team.

If A-Rod puts up the same type numbers with the Rangers again this year and still gets no MVP Trophy because his team sucks, I'm going to be sick.

MVP means Most Valuable Player. It doesn't mean leading scorer. Ben Wallace is more important to the Pistons success than anyone else. You could argue he means more to his team than any other player. I watch almost all Piston games, and he dominates games on the defense. Not to mention how many extra chances he gives the Pistons with his offensive rebounds. Ben Wallace does more to control the game on the defensive end than anyone else does on the offensive.

I disagree, if Big Ben wasn't there, they're defense wouldn't be as solid, true (and the Pistons would only have about 10 rebounds for the entire team), but they would still be a good team.

On the other hand, if the TWolves didn't have Garnett, they would be below mediocre. They would be one of the worst teams in the L. KG makes that team a playoff team, him, and him alone.

Why I believe KG is MVP

I'm not knocking Ben Wallace at all on what he does for the Pistons. However, Kevin Garnett does more to help his team than any one player is asked to do for their respective team by a long shot. KG impacts what the Timberwolves do on defense and rebounding just like Wallace for the Pistons. KG is the backbone of most of the zone defenses the T'Wolves run, and he's asked to guard the top offensive player on the opposing team aside from wide-bodied centers and smaller, quicker point guards in man-to-man on most nights. Plus he's asked to initiate whatever plays the team does on offense (save a few isolation plays for Wally Szczerbiak). Whenever the T'Wolves run their half-court sets, every other player on the team -- aside from Szczerbiak on occasion -- gets their points directly from how the defense chooses to guard KG. Only Tracy McGrady and Tim Duncan, followed closely by Shaquille O'Neal (to a slightly lesser extent because of Kobe Bryant) are comparable to KG in terms of who has the bigger share of offensive responsiblities on their respective team.

On the offensive end for the Pistons, Ben Wallace is primarily a pick-setter, a garbage guy (putbacks from offensive rebounds) and recipient of alley-oop passes. He is working on improving his post moves and on his mid-range J to flesh out his offensive game. But until then, all the guys I mentioned above are more worthy candidates for MVP than Ben Wallace is in terms of having the most value to their team.

Re: Why I believe KG is MVP

Right now, halfway through the season, Kevin Garnett is the most valuable player.

He leads his team in PPG, RPG, APG, SPG, and BPG. You'd be hardpressed to find another guy that leads his team in even three of those. How much valuable can you get?

Beyond that, he is easily the most versatile player in the NBA. He's only behind Nowitski in terms of big men with shooting range, meaning he can play the top of the key and actually force his defender to have to cover him. You all saw his range in the all star game. 17-24, most of which came from the perimeter, and the guy is 7 feet tall.

He also regularly plays three positions (SF, PF, and C), is capable of bringing the ball upcourt is needed to, and covers virtually everyone on the other team whether in the post or on the perimeter. The guy is a beast.

Look at the rest of the Wolves. There's Troy Hudon, Kendall Gill, Joe Smith, and Rasho Nesterovic, with Anthony Peeler and Gary Trent coming off the bench. Does that even sound like an NBA team? Hell, some of the better Duke teams could beat that squad. But with Garnett, they're a playoff team.

Garnett is easily the MVP right now. I was stoked he won the all-star game MVP, because that will get the media to start looking at him for the league MVP more seriously.

Hey Will. You are perhaps the only T'Wolves fan on this site, so it would to ask you this.

Troy Hudson has been playing pretty well for the T'Wolves at the PG spot. Plus he's a young guy too, so he could be a fixture there if the team really wants to keep him. So my question is... what's the deal with Terrell Brandon? Has any info come up as far as what the T'Wolves are gonna do with Brandon when he gets healthy?

And I really believe KG should've gotten much more consideration for MVP last season. It's a shame that the guy is getting shafted just for not being able to carry his team past much more talented playoff teams.
