Bucks have pulled off one of THE great trade days...

Can't believe how many posts here I have read saying nothing will change in Milwaulke.

    Are you crazy?!

They get one of THE elite players in GP for a streaky shooter.

GP is an all time great and still a top 10 player in the NBA. They get instant D + a leader + they get to change their style from Cassell and Allen jacking it up, to a more structured approach.

Anthony Mason and Tim Thomas will become instantly better.

If the Cassel to NY for Spree thing works out...the East is there to be won.

Anyone who has watched GP closely knows how good he is. This guy has CARRIED that team...in the WC!

His impact will be greater than Kidd's.

Oh yeah...they got Desmond Mason also

Seattle did okay also as GP was likely to bolt anyway and they are gone for this season. Thus, a top 5 SG is an excellent addition.

    Gotta love trade deadline day

                ^ Yeah I agree.

                And if that Spree deal goes through;

                1) The Bucks will have a completely different team . .
                2) The Finals will be waiting for them.

                I can hear it now . .

"And another alley from Payton to Sprewell.."

Sorry, I'm not trying to offend anyone here, but what planet are you guys living on? I knew Gary Payton had some rabid fans, but can you take the blinders off for a sec? The Bucks in the finals? The Bucks remind me of recent Mavs teams, only with a less explosive offense and an even worse defense.

First, the Bucks are for sale and are cleaning house. Pure and simple. They get Ray Allen's max contract off the books, and Payton will walk after this season and sign with a contender. That will leave the Bucks well under the luxury tax mark, and in good financial shape to be sold.

Now, before you think I'm just here to bash the Bucks, let me state that Desmond Mason is a nice get. But he isn't a difference maker. I think exchanging Allen for Payton is basically a wash in the short term. But in the long term, it's just a sign that the Bucks are about to start all over again, and after this year it'll be a good long while before they're out of the lottery, let alone deep into the playoffs.

killspeed- this trade instantly makes it possible for them to reach the finals this year. Likely? no, but in the East anything is possible. Payton has atleast 19 and 8 in him for the next 3 years. Mason is arguably the most athletic player in the NBA and adds a defender they never had, not to mention Payton's defense. As for the Sonics I like the deal if they get Milwaukee's first round pick, and Allen doesn't have anymore health problems the rest of the year. If those two things dont happen it was a horrible trade, the sonics did take a huge risk. Risky, but could pay off big in a year.

I know where your coming from, but I have to disagree.

I don't believe their clearing house...trading Allen PROVES that IMO.

Think about this, if Payton leaves at season end, the Bucks just gave up:
                            1. Their best player
                            and
                            2. Their most popular player
                            and
                            3. A genuine 'nice' guy...the type season ticket holders LOVE.

No way do you give up Allen to try and help sell a team. No Payton and Allen is 2004 would mean a lottery team and less support + less TV exposure...and who wants to buy that?

I think they have rolled the dice and gambled they can win it all.

GP is a GREAT player. No way is he slowing down for 2 more seasons.

The bit that has stunned me is getting Mason. I'd almost have considered it a decent deal if it was just Mason for Allen. To get GP also...wow.

Paytons agent has already said he likes playing for coach karl. You can bet that was already known and discussed...and so was the extension.

Did you see Indianna v the Nets today? You saw why Indy WONT win the East. Kidd went up a level and they had nothing to stop him with.

Milwulke now have the one guy who even Kidd will say is better than him. Indianna should have rolled the dice. They'd of won the whole freakin thing with Payton.
