That is an absolutly ridiculous statement. I'm sorry, but every player listed in this poll has the same basketball IQ needed to be able to win a game in the closing seconds.

It would depend how big the game is, just a normal game is Bird.

If it's a Playoff game I would take Jordan.

You know, a lot of people have forgotten -- or maybe never really knew -- just how good Larry Bird was back in the day. I think these same people assume that Bird, while generally a better rebounder and passer, couldn't keep up with Jordan in the scoring department. Wrong. Unlike Jordan, Bird didn't care about winning the scoring title. And, with teamates like Kevin McHale and Robert Parish, he didn't have to.

Make no mistake, though: Bird could put the ball in the hoop. Casual fans only remember the Larry Bird of the early 90s. By that time, his back was injured so badly he was practically a cripple (and, indeed, he spent time in traction between games during the 1991 playoffs). Of course, he still averaged 20/9/7 a game during his final two seasons.

The point (no pun intended) of all this should be clear: When healthy, Bird could score with Jordan whenever he was inclined to do so. While many people just matter-of-factly declare Jordan as the GOAT, everyone should be aware that Larry Bird, healthy and in his prime, was as good as Jordan...even better in some areas (such as rebounding, passing, and clutch performance). Although, admittedly, he was never as good of an individual defender as Jordan, but he wasn't quite as bad as everyone seems to think (again, most fans only remember the nearly immobile Bird from the end of his career).

I did not see Bird play ( although I'm 27 ) but if you say that he was a better passer than MJ then he must have been one out of this world. Jordan was a phenomenal passer. I think you got carried away here my friend.

I didn't see Bird play either, but from what I've heard Bird was one of the best passers in the league back then. Plus I've watched this video before:

Bird was an unbelievable passer. Truly, unbelievable. It still seems to amaze me, after watching all of his highlights hundreds and hundreds of times.

Larry was a phenomenal player, no question, but Jordan is the GOAT. Even Larry said that himself. He called Jordan "God" with a basketball. He said it HIMSELF, and that was before the six rings.

I'd take Jordan because out of everyone mentioned, he has the most options at the end of the game. He can shoot it, pass it, dunk it, or make such an athletic and aggressive move that he gets the foul, and then he's a great freethrow shooter, so that's money as well.

If not the great passing ability of MJ - Pippen/Grant/BJ/Paxon/Kerr/Longly wouldn't have had a career. *blinks*

That's what everyone does. They credit other players to seem classy and earn respect. Ofcourse Larry wasn't serious.

I'm a life long Jordan fan, and obviously was a Bulls fan since the Artis Gilmore days.

That said, I went with Bird, as much as it hurts me. Now granted, Jordan had more ability to get to the line, create, etc. However, if we're talking inbounds, 2 seconds left, it's Bird. He's the best shooter I've ever seen. The man didn't even understand the concept of pressure.

For "current" players I found this interesting...

Carmelo Anthony has not only delivered the most "game winning/tying buckets" in the final moments, he's also done it at a rate that's over twice the NBA average!
Kobe Bryant meanwhile has indeed had seven such made shots over the past three seasons (including playoffs), but at a pretty low conversion rate, even factoring in his free throws.

The other thing with Kobe and a number of go-to guys is that they are not looking to pass the ball! Zero assists in these "final possession" states for Bryant with 32 shots taken (the most for any player with zero assists) says something.
