Okafor Turned Down Extension $13 Million/Year

Instead sources say that he wanted a max deal! Charlotte Observer reports he wanted 5 years/$85 million.. WOW. I'm sure MJ will eventually try to give him 100 mill over 5 years

I admit that I originally thought Orlando was foolish to draft Howard over Okafor.

Yea at the time Emeka was better, but he was about as good as he was gonna get. Howard on the other hand had insane physical abilities, which are coming full swing. They're never guaranteed to become full blown, but Orlando went with the youth and limitless ceiling.

Nobody would've chose Emeka over D12 with his enormous potential and knowing he was still growing.

Weisbrod was advised to take D12 and with teh news od Emeka's back problems, I don't remember a soul saying pass on Dwight.

I was shocked when people thought that Okafor was the better pick at #1. Sure, he was more talented and better suited for the NBA at the time, but anyone who has an eye for talent would realize that Howard's potential was far greater than Okafor's. The scouts knew what they were doing.

Every year scouts spot can't miss potential and talent that... miss.

Okafor is funny. He might have done it just to get out of Charlotte since the money isn't over there too much. He's had a losing season since he's joined the league. Go figure though. I thought that Okafor would have been a better pick when I looked at the two only because Okafor won the championship and looked pretty decent. I sure as hell would have been fired making a dumb pick like that. Has Okafor played a whole season without injury? I'm sure Dwight hasn't had a major injury himself.

Why are people hating on Okafor that much? Dude has averaged a double-double every single year he's been in the league. He's not a top-level talent, but there have been far bigger scrubs to get max contracts.

I think to prove your point even more, a list of those scrubs would have made it more convincing. Oak has played 166/246 of his teams' regular season games in his three seasons.

Thank you. Play a maximum amount of games for a season for once. Then we'll talk. Right now, they would be paying him for 5 season to play 4.

I think he just wants to play for a contender.

Stay healthy, & the Bobcats would be able to contend in the East by now. They've had 4 1st rounders in their 1st 3 seasons. Oak, Sean May, Raymond Felton & Adam Morrison. Oak has always been injury prone. May has yet to play half a season. And Adam & he were out for the year before this season started.

Its hard to develop talent when you're putting in a patchwork lineup every week.

His best bet to get the money & play for a contender is to stay put & stay off the disabled list.

But as for now, no way would any team be smart to deal a max contract for a player who's available 60 games a year.

Charlotte BETTER resign him. Sure he is not an elite level player, but he is a damn good big man when he healthy and damn good big men are not easy to find.....especially ones who rebound and play D the way Emeka does. Ben Wallace got a better deal by Chicago and at this point Okafor is superior to Wallace and if he stays healthy may end up having a better career than Wallace did. If that happens, he's worth every penny.

I just think he wants assurance from MJ that he is the franchise player.
