I am sorry, but Yao doesn't impress me...

at ALL. He's going to be a fine player, but not a dominating one. How many times in tonight's game against the Wizards did he had his shot blocked by Haywood. Some of those shot blocks by Haywood were very emphatic. One shot was packed so hard it went all the way back to the half court line. I was trying so hard not to laugh because i was busy eating. They say Yao needs to add some strength, but I think he lacks quickness. He is bit too stiff to work the up and under against any quality defender, and Brandon, btw, isn't one of them.

The problem is that he either goes for 30 and 15 or goes 10 and 10. He needs to get more consitant.

But he is a rookie and the pressure he has on him is ENOURMOUS!!!! Give him a few years and he'll be the best center (maybe by default when/if Shaq retires) in the league

Hes a rook gotta give him time and hes from a different country hard to adjust I would think. Also hes way more talented they the most dominating player right now Shaq...just needs to add size(strength)!

I agree that sometimes Yao can appear rather unimpressive, however he shows just enough glimpses of talent to show that he has remarkable potential. His rookie averages of 13.6 ppg, 8.20 rpg and 1.88bpg (so far) are actually much better than KG's rookie averages of 10.4ppg, 6.3 rpg and 1.6 bpg and has already improved a great deal throughout the course of the season.

The fact that he is so young, so big and with so few quality centres in the league makes for an exciting mix, especially for Rocket fans. As Ninja and MilBucks22fan said.....give him time.

He reminds me of Rik Smits. He's going to be a nice player. I just don't see him dominating. He doesn't have the quickness to get up and down quick enough. His recovery is something you can't teach. I don't know how many times he was thrown the ball so close to the rack and it took him 2 days to get the ball up to the rim. By the time he got the ball up to his shoulders, guys have gotten back to strip or block his shot. I saw this happen on a number of plays during the game. I just see alot of those little things that will keep from dominating the game.

He does need to develope more of an attacking nature around the basket. Sometimes it's like hes trying to be too cute or fancy when he should just go up strong and cram it on peoples heads like any self-respecting centre should do.

Personally i think Yao posses extremely good footwork for someone so tall and will have a waaaaay better nba career than Smits.

Rik Smits was a pretty good player in his prime (obviously he's no Wilt Chamberlain) but he was a solid pro centre in an era where there were a lot more quality centres in the league than there are at present.

                            Just my opinions though............
