I don't like this idea at all. Not everone is "cut out" for college, playing sports or not. I think it should be a decision made by the athlete.

If it's meant to be, you'd make it to the pros. If not, you won't. I don't see many college players getting injured taht could've made it to the L.

                Re: Thank you David Stern!!!

Bout time an age limit has been needed for awhile! There are too many young players in the league who are no where close to being developed. Those players should be in college if they can't academically qualify for college im sure NBDL will lower it's limit to 18 years of age. I mean think how good Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry, Kwame Brown, etc could be if they had went to college instead of getting beating up everyday in the nba. A Kobe, KG, Lebron James comes every once in a while but that is the exception to young players doing well in the nba. Ask Jermaine O'Neil if he wishes he woulda went to college instead of having spliters up his *** for 4 years in Portland due to him not being developed as a player. And let's remember the draft is supposed to give immediate help to the struggling teams of the league. Not give help 3-4 years down the line!

Why should the athlete have the right to decide
??. you have to remember, the NBA is a place of employment...and Stern and co are basically the overall owners. they have every right in the world to decide a criteria for prospective employees.

If Stern believes enforcing players must be 20years of age at least will improve the image, play and character of both his leauge, and his players, then he has every right in the world to do that.

If players don't like it...then maybe they should look for a different job.

It may be pro sports...but don't forget...it's a employer like any other business, with the right to impose rules. Rules, in this situation, which I believe are very good.

How hard is it to get into college? I mean if you are good the booster club will always help you along right?

I think this excuse about grades is stupid. If you are lazy that you shouldn't be in the NBA. If you can't get a 2.5 in highschool or a 2.5 in college (non-academic uni) you have to be lazy. And if a kid works hard but still can't get those types of grades then look at it in those situation one by one.

I think this is a great idea. College football adopted this along time ago. I think that's why college football is such a high calibur and it's the reason why the NFL is where they are at. They actually have leaders that know what they are doing. NBA and MLB are run by morons.

There are a lot of Jrs on the list that haven't done squat in the L either. There isn't going to be that big of a difference. What's going to happen is that there will be a ton Jrs. (who aren't ready for the L) leaving early because they know that the class of freshmen behind them will be wanting to declare for the draft the following year (i.e. those Jrs. senior season).

If the NBA really wanted to do something about the "problem" then they'd contract teams. The first time that there was at least 5 Fr. and So. combined in the draft was the 1988 draft (the year the league expanded to Charlotte and Orlando). If there are fewer spots then the proven commodities will be the ones getting drafted.

And anyone who wants to compare the NBA to the NFL is kidding themselves.
