The Better Basketball Videos say that the Redick is "the greatest shooter of all time"

So what is up with JJ Redick? He gets no PT with the Magic. Now I know he is not going to be a superstar in this league. But, he could definitely be a major contributer to most squads. He would definitely be able to spread the floor for any team and knock down any open looks he's given. He'd probably have a top five shooting percentage from three if he got consistent minutes. I mean c'mon, the Magic should definitely be able to use him with all the attention Howard gets inside. Not just the Magic either.

Imagine JJ with the Nuggets with all the attention Melo and Iverson get, and the pace they play at. Or with the Warriors where no shot is a bad shot, and they attempt more threes than any team. Or with Chris Paul, Tracy McGrady, or Los Spurs who would find him for open looks repeatedly. Or with the Suns, period.

So could anybody please tell me what's going on because it's been something that has been bothering me for a minute...lol... I feel like the Magic are just wasting away his talent.

$20 Dollar question that I'd like to know myself....I know I heard sometime a while ago that the Magic have plans on even trading him just to give him an opportunity to play somewhere else.

Lol, but all kidding aside, he hasn't really been able to get consistent minutes with all the shooters the magic have and Van Gundy doesn't like his inability to handle the ball consistently and he's pretty lacking on defense. He'll get his chance eventually, whether it's with the Magic or another team. I wouldn't give up on him yet.

Orlando seems to be doing fine with Redick sitting his *** on the bench so I don't see any reason for it to change anytime soon.

                      A few things:

                      1. His free throw percentage wasn't 98%. It was very good at 93.8% his first 3 years, but dipped to a more reasonable 86.3% his senior year and is at 80% this year. That's certainly good, but puts him 7th on the team in FT%, and far off from the elite FT shooters like Butler, Nash, and Allen.

                      2. Calling JJ the best shooter of all time is silliness. He wasn't anywhere close. The big thing he had going for him was his jersey and a certain announcer. Realistically, he might not even be a top 3 shooter who played for Duke in the 2000s. His total 3P% was about 41.5, but 39.9 not including his senior year. Mr. Battier and Mr. Williams had a combined 6 years of shooting about 41.5%, including career highs of 44.4% and 44.6%. Paulus has been shooting at 43.5% the past two years.

Nation wide, saying JJ was the best shooter in the land is even sillier. Salim Stoudamire went 50.4% from the 3 point line in 2004-2005. That's a lot better than JJ. Then when you get all time players involved, it's over. Ray Allen shot 44.8% for his entire career. JJ probably wouldn't crack a top 50 list of best shooters. Throw in some epic choke jobs in the tourny (a total statline of 11/44). Take away the hype and you get a good shooter. Maybe a borderline great shooter. But best ever? Please.

                      3. The NBA isn't the ACC. Spot up ball screen shooters aren't all that hard to find. Why should he play more? He's shooting a great 32.3% from 3 (good for 9th on the team). It'd be one thing if he was a Kapono, Gibson, or Sasha, but he's not. He's not good enough to be a "sharp shooter" and he can't do anything else. You can find versatile players who can shoot 32% from 3, or you can find stiffs who shoot 45%.

If your coach is going to sacrifice by having you on the court (a spot-up shooter only) then you need to shoot better than 37% from three. If he was knocking 'em down at 45% or higher he'd see a lot more burn.

Deeper line, better defenders, the offense not oriented around him, etc. It wasn't hard to see he was gonna be a bust in the league.

                              1. O, I have no idea about his percentage for the YEAR, I'm just saying in that graphic it was 98% from what I saw, so it looked pretty good. And it's hard to shoot a good percentage when you only get like 5-10 minutes a game, there's no chance to get into rhythm.

2/3. I don't remember ever calling him the best shooter ever, this is actually my first time to comment on this player at all, I'm just saying if he's a very good shooter, he should get playing time. Again, the percentages aren't really fair because he has no chance to get into much of a rhythm...
