I've heard Michael Curry is going to be the new head coach. That should be pretty interesting.

Flip Saunders is an alright coach IMO but he just seems to wear his welcome out very quickly.

Ah that's being unfair. Schottenheimer had a lot of BAD luck in his playoff defeats. (He only got really outcoached/pannicked in the Pats game) whereas Flip gets outcoached routinely.

I have to disagree with that. Flip didn't take advantage of the matchup with Chauncey and Rondo against Boston, and didn't have an adequate defense set up for Lebron, allowing him to play to his strengths last year. Then just a little while later, we see Pop SHUT LEBRON DOWN with a real defense.

Joe D. just said it will not be a long process to hire a new coach.. AND that he has never heard or seen a "good" team tear it down to the ground and start from scratch. He said he has "no interest in tearing the team down".

Now he's saying he's going to make a significant change. Sheed, your days in D-town are numbered. If they can get Okafor, maybe Jamison.. that'd be nice. Sheed is in the last year of his deal at 13 million.

Edit: He is now saying there's no sacred cows.. EVERYONE is in play. Wow.

Unless they keep Sheed, I don't think adding Jamison would work at all.

You'd be trading an old, inconsistent big man who wishes he was a 2 guard and plays good defense occasionally with an expiring contract for an old, inconsistent big man who wishes he was a 2 guard and plays horrible defense with a new, long, expensive contract.

I feel sorry for Flip. He was in mediocrity in Minny and his first gig is with the Detroit Pistons. He didn't get a chance to taste winning. At least his resume` looks pretty solid with those two finals appearances. The Pistons players need new blood. Toss Richard for starters and that team could actually get another championship.......

Unless someone quits their current job, I don't see how any coach they bring in will be an upgrade. Bottom line is that this core of guys isn't good enough. Flip should take some blame, but a big chunk should also go to the players and GM.

Why is it that every time a team wins a series the losing coach was outcoached? Doc Rivers has better players and it showed. He did nothing to outcoach Flip. When Phil lost to DiAntoni last year was he outcoached? No. Phil is by far the better coach, he just had less talent. While it happens at times, people are too quick to use the term outcoached.

I don't think any other coach in the NBA would have won this series with this group of players. The one major weakness this team has is post scoring. Unless you have a dominant perimeter player to make up for that, that aspect can not be overcome. They need to make major changes, and if that means starting over then so be it. There should be no untouchable player on this team. A coach alone will not fix this; hopefully Piston fans who are happy about the move realize that.

Poster, and anyone else, did you guys watch the press conference with Joe? He guaranteed changes to the lineup but said he doesn't want to blow up the entire team. So he has acknowledged that the players aren't good enough. He said he watched the Lakers/Spurs series and saw what he wants in D-town, effort.
