Like I said, he has the skill, but what is putting him over the edge for ROY is the hype surrounding him, not exactly his stats.

I think it would be great if they got co-rookie of the year honors. If not, that I say, which ever team makes it to the playoffs. That is a pretty good equalizer. Although, personally, I learn a little more toward Yao. He has been a little bit more consistent. Both are great tho.

Yeah i would kinda like to see them share the award ala Fancis and Brand but Yao is one of the nba's new "main men" and the main reason behind the nba's growing popularity in China. I doubt the nba will jeopardize any of that popularity and $$$ by not giving the award to Yao.

Both Amare and Yao's stats are virtually identical:

Amare - 13.4 points, 9.2 boards, .9 assists and .9 bpg.
Yao - 13.9 points, 8.3 boards, 1.7 apg and 1.9 bpg.

As both teams also have similar records i think they should definetly split the award between the two.

Popularity has nothing to do with this award actually. The NBA doesn't decide who gets this award, I think. If it's the same as the MVP and COY and other awards, it's the sportwriters and such that vote who should get this. So, I think they base this award on their performance level, impact to their team, and other such criteria. Yao has been a solid number 1 pick, while Amare has been a huge surprise at a lower spot. Both have been huge for their teams, and have brought both of them into the playoff hunt. I would still go with Yao because he didn't have as big of a hit on the Rookie Wall as Amare did. Plus, Yao has to deal with all the hype and media and all that crap day in and day out, and in multiple languages. Crazy.

If the season ended today I would pick Amare. But if Gooden continue to average around 17 and 10 in Orlando, he should get it.

I agree that they should both be voted co-rookies. It is b/c of their efforts that both of their teams are playing so well this year. Then again it also helps that Francis is healthy and Marbury is playing well.

In an informal poll of 28 voters for NBA postseason awards (each category has 125 voters), Yao was named as the choice for Rookie of the Year by 20 voters, with Stoudemire, 6-10, getting the other eight.
