Yao is going to be a 15 point and 9 rebound a game player, not bad but not good either. I don't see this stiff being a great player. He is too for any big man with footwork to get around. His recovery ability is way too slow to get up and down from each shot. How many times this guy got dunked on tonight? Yao, the big stiff!

The guy is a Rookie, your not an NBA Critic your an NBA Idiot. Do you remember last time they met Yao blocked Shaq 3 times. If you think Yao will be like every other 7'5"+ the come through the league then your wrong. Yao will be a top player in the NBA, I guaruntee it

I'm not jumping on him, i just thought it was funny how the league tries to bill it as some sort of epic clash between two titans, and Shaq basically just destroyed him.

That basically sums up this post. People and the media tried to make Yao an equal to Shaq. Shaq is a dominating and a great player period. Yao, at his best, will only be a pretty good better-- a little bit better than he is right now IMO, but that's about it. The media and others need to stop trying to promote this fraud of a Russell and Chamberlain matchup.

Do you mean that Yao will only get a little better than he is right now, in his entire career? Or when he plays this season. If you think he won't get a lot better, than . . . . I don't even know what to say about that. He's so damn young. He has a lot to learn still. I think his upside is huge. He's got great fundamentals, shoots well, moves well, passes well, and he's 7'5". He can handle the media very well, and he is a good hard worker. Skies the limit for this kid, he's gonna be a lot better.

Yao Ming has great fundamentals, but he lacks physical talent. At 7'5, he gets dominated like he is 6'5. What he lacks is recovery, which he needs as a big man. Without this key component, people seem to misjudge hjim as being a stiff. Yao is not a stiff. He has good footwork for a big man, but the recovery will always keep him from dominating. The ability to get up and down quickly is major key to ever dominating. You can always gain strength but without the recovery ability, he will always be a little bit better than Rik Smits, which is not bad at all.

It reminds me alot of what happen to Bill Walton. Bill had great recovery ability until the injuries to his knees. After all those knee surgeries, he was a big man with alot fundamentals without any physical talent left. I know this is besides the point, but this is kinda where I liken Yao too.
