Yao Ming has great fundamentals, but he lacks physical talent. At 7'5, he gets dominated like he is 6'5. What he lacks is recovery, which he needs as a big man. Without this key component, people seem to misjudge hjim as being a stiff. Yao is not a stiff. He has good footwork for a big man, but the recovery will always keep him from dominating. The ability to get up and down quickly is major key to ever dominating. You can always gain strength but without the recovery ability, he will always be a little bit better than Rik Smits, which is not bad at all.

It reminds me alot of what happen to Bill Walton. Bill had great recovery ability until the injuries to his knees. After all those knee surgeries, he was a big man with alot fundamentals without any physical talent left. I know this is besides the point, but this is kinda where I liken Yao too.

Do you know anything about basketball? Yao is a rookie, and MOST rookies, which includes Yao, take time to develop. You can't expect him to be putting up 28 and 15 now or even in 1-2 years. It's going to take time, and him extra time because he doesn't speak english, this country is foreign to him, and he has never faced competition this good. Not to mention, he needs more upper body strength.

I would ask you the same? Recovery could be a bad choice of wording on my part. When I say recovery, I am not referring to leaping ability. Duncan has no leaping ability but he has great recovery. I watched alot of basketball to give my fair analysis of Ming. Yes, I am aware he is a rookie and he is not from this country. However, he still lacks that key ingredient. If you watch Dirk on the Mavs he has what Yao lacks, thus he dominates. Van Horn doesn't; therefore, he doesn't dominate. Keep in mind they must all have skill before even factoring this.

Yao will have great nights, but he will not consistently dominate IMO. Shaq figured out Yao after playing him once. I expect Duncan will to.

You are confusing me? When did I ever say Yao had no skills? Yao has very good skills and good footwork for a man 7'5, but he lacks recovery. Many think Yao is a stiff, and that's just not the case. Again, I think Yao will be a better version of Rik Smits, which is NOT bad at all.

"they must all" I am referring to any big man, at least over 6'10. I am sorry if I confused you. Now re-read the last sentence with that in mind.

Another horrible night for Yao...2 points, 1/9 shooting, 3 boards...ouch. Duncan had 25 points and 14 boards...it's been a tought 2 games for Yao tonight and last night...he'll still get better though.
