    Re: 10/30 Discussion Thread

Dallas lacking that "killer instinct" has been talked about since they lost to Miami in the finals. I don't think Slymms comments were based on this one game alone.

As far as people making predictions after one game goes... People on Clutchfans are ready to ship McGrady out despite the fact that he had 7 assists, was 10-11 from the line, and was our head cheerleader on the bench, never once complaining about being on the bench.

I gotta say, despite his poor shooting (which I attribute to injury), he was driving to the hole, which resulted in either drawing a foul, or setting someone else up for an easy look. I thought he played great, considering he's still recovering. His lack of latteral movement resulted in him getting killed on D though. Pulling him was a smart move, but still, I liked what he brought.

they are held to different standard than other teams for some reason

I guess there havent been many teams with "killer instinct" in the NBA over the past 10 seasons other than teams that won it all?

lol it's certainly NBA season again, folks are talking about the Mavs lacking "killer instinct"..."the Czar" talked during the broadcast that "the Mavs need to do some soul searching after this game". It's the first freaking game Czar lol, and it was close until the end!!

that was a smart precautionary move re: TMac imo. It's a marathon, not a sprint. They need to make sure he stays as healthy as possible. They wore him out last year.

as far as the people that want to ship him out, i wonder what the *** they have been watching.

I personally think the Mavs don't lack killer instinct. I mean they made it to the Finals a few years back and that core is pretty much still together.

IMO Killer instinct is having a team down 15+ and not finishing it off. Or in a series being up 3-1 and not finishing off, The Mavs came back once on the Rox and tried to give one last shot at it late in the 4th. I don't feel they lack killer instinct, some nights the other team just makes the better plays down the stretch.

I think people lable them like that because of the Warriors series. Before that series the Mavs were a Elite team then GSW beat them and people started to call them soft.

btw, the main key to the Rockets season is going to be Yao staying healthy. He is becoming the best center in the game imo.

Artest and TMac and their depth will be important obviously, but Yao puts Houston at a different level imo.

yea if the Mavs lack killer instinct than 80 percent of the NBA has lacked killer instinct

some of it is talent. People dont say that the Suns have "lacked killer instinct". Sometimes the other team is just better, and some of it is matchups.

I know its early in the season, so you can get away with it for now, but I don't believe Yao will hold up if he averages more than 33, 34 minutes a game.

I know with the West being so loaded that every game is crucial, but they may have to risk losing a few games this season by holding his minutes down in some games and therefore maybe improving their chances of having Yao make it to the finish line this year.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

They can go small on some nights though depending on the team they play.

They will definitely have to get Mutombo back mid season or another good backup

Well I got 2/3 predictions right. Also whats up with the empty crowds? Is it that more people come to the games later in the season? I was surprised Dallas was so empty even though its their home opener.

Yeah getting Mutumbo back aruond mid-season is a must for the playoffs.

Also, The Mavs arena looked pretty loaded, they just left early...seemed like Houston fans...arrive late and leave early we gotta do better than that lol.

Rockets fans are notorious in how deeply they resent the star players on the team. If you shipped out McGrady right now and got Kobe or Lebron as a replacement, the fans would greet the new guy as a savior for about two weeks and then they'd start HATING the new guy and begging for trades after every single down performance. They even used to do that with Hakeem, although no one will admit to it now.

So far I'm liking what I'm seeing from everyone. Looks like Luther played himself out of the rotation, and Aaron played himself in which is great. Aaron's effect on the second unit versus Luther's was what I think was the deciding factor last night. I'm wondering how Battier is going to fit into the lineup once he returns. So far, Rick is running a nice tight 9-man rotation. I wonder if he's going to open it up for Shane and run ten or is he going to knock someone out of the rotation all together. If so, who's minutes take a hit?

                              Starters:
                              Yao
                              Scola
                              Artest
                              McGrady
                              Rafer

                              Backups:
                              Landry
                              Hayes
                              Battier
                              Barry
                              Brooks

                              Head
                              Dorsey

                              Injured Reserve:
                              Von Wafer
                              Steve Francis

BTW, I'm not used to seeing this many Rockets fans on OS, lol.

Luther Head should've been gone 2 years ago. The Rockets can only hope he plays well so his trade value can go up because the guy is way too one dimensional and is only twice as calm as Reece Gaines was... which isnt saying much at all.
