Re: Iverson to Pistons for Billups/McDyess
This trade will definitely benefit the Pistons, whether it be this season, or in the long run, or both, mark my word. With Iverson, we now have the go to guy and the superstar we have needed since we last won the title. Yeah, I am sad Bills is gone, but he is winding down fast. McDyess will be coming back, after he is bought out and clears waivers, so I am happy with that. Say what you want about AI, but I think he will fit perfectly here in Detroit. He finally has a great group of 4 guys that can play together, and get to the finals. Plus, after this season, with his added salary to Sheed's we have $35 Million in spending, PLUS the other little contracts such as Herrmann, etc. I Another great move by Joey D, yet again.Comment

He did when he had the ball, though. There is a reason why he's getting traded.
The problem with Iverson isn't so much the amount of shots he take. It's the kind of shots he takes.Comment

Re: Iverson to Pistons for Billups/McDyess
I think the real issue in Denver was who takes the last shot, who is the true team leader, etc... AI was really toning down his shots this season (granted, short sample size) and it was Melo who took all the bad shots against LA. I don't think AI was the problem (Melo's bad shots and lack of defensive intensity are largely to blame), but rather the basic idea of having two isolation-oriented finishers on the same team.
The best teams are not generalists but specialists -- the Celtics are a perfect example... they have a cogent team philosophy on both ends of the floor, but their players (including their Big Three) basically come in and fill well-defined roles. Iverson and Melo didn't have a role other than "SCORE A LOT", and that led to confusion that rolled down the rest of the team and led to Karl's uneven and erratic rotations. Having Melo as the clear #1 option on offense, Billups as de facto team leader (just from his experience alone), JR as outside gunner/pure scorer, K-Mart as defender, Nene as post presence... it just makes the whole team make more sense.
AI's not getting traded for taking bad shots, especially considering that he did that far less last season than at any other time in his career, leading to his career-best FG%. He's getting traded because the initial AI trade was not well thought-out and was a impulsive effort to keep afloat while Melo and JR sat out that suspension... as well as a move by ownership to increase team revenue through merch/jersey/ticket sales thanks to AI's immense popularity in the US and abroad. It was a flawed concept, and that is meting itself out right now in this trade.
P2K, if you're telling people to stop acting like they know Philly if they're not a die-hard fan, I want to know how you know so much about the way Iverson's played since being in Denver -- are you a die hard Nuggets fan? I've watched every single game he's played in baby blue and he took far less bad shots than Melo. You're a pot and you're calling the kettle black with that argument.Last edited by Stumbleweed; 11-03-2008, 07:05 PM.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: Iverson to Pistons for Billups/McDyess
I think stumbleweed is correct in some of his comments there. I think the main reason why AI was traded has a lot to do with who's the leader and such. I think the guys going to Denver will be a good fit there. It'll be interesting to see how they do now.
I think AI will be a good fit in Detroit. They're obviously going for a different dynamic now and it'll be interesting to see how it translates in the playoffs where tough gritty play is often one of the key factors in how a team does.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

So, I'll ask again.....if he was all this and that like you state and AI wasn't the problem...why the hell is he getting traded...again?Comment
