Re: Iverson to Pistons for Billups/McDyess

Well Denver gets a good on the ball defender (which is something AI isnt despite averaging over 2.0 spg) and a leader who can help Carmelo mature and assume that leadership role in the near future.

Detroit gets a great scorer and any weakness AI has on D should covered up by Detroit's great team D. Main problem is AI is a system player, hes not the type of player that can just come in and fit into what you are doing. He has to be in a system that is designed for him to excel in.

I think putting Rip on the bench is out of the question. Let AI run the point, it will be much more chaotic than with Billups, but it could work. As long as rip gets his 15 a game maybe they will all be fine with deferring to AI for the lion's share of the scoring as long as he does a decent job as distributing.

A question for Piston's fans. I know dumars wanted to shake it up and everything, but did you all really believe that the window was officially closed and that the Pistons were just going to be a declining good team from here on out as long as they kept that core of Billups, rip, Prince, and Sheed?

      .
they were until they got blasted out by the lakers. that sorry *** performance showed they were not among the elite in the west and they did nothing in the offseason to help thier weakness. they lost thier only decent defender in camby.

therefore, not a contender in the west. so they traded him.

I wonder how much the Camby situation had to do with him leaving? Think he would still be there if Camby was in the middle?

yes the window was closing on the team. they were not going to beat the celtics with that lineup. AI gives them a better chance due to his scoring ability.

honestly, after hearing Camby talk before the clipper game tonight about the trade yes i think it did. he said AI was really disappointed that they let him leave.

Oh i missed those comments. i was thinking that with Camby leaving AI may have felt that any hope of Denver having the same success he had in Philly was gone. He was kind of like his Mutombo.

The window wasnt closed completely but it would have taken our best effort, night in and night out to win it and I dont think that group of players is capable of putting forth the effort needed to win a series with Boston. Billups isnt terrible but his contract is terrible and for that reason alone Im glad we moved on. Chauncey wasnt a good defensive player anymore and he hasnt been "big shot" for quite awhile. We needed more explosiveness on offense, we needed a go to guy late in the game that could take over and score when we needed it and Iverson can provide that where as Billups doesnt seem able to anymore. I think the move was two fold, get more offensive explosion and rid ourselves of Billups contract since Stuckey will be ready to take over next year as it is.

LeBron is not going to leave CLE's market to go to DET's. Neither is Wade, who actually grew up hating the Pistons. I don't know how this will work out for the present, but it's not going to make them a contender in the 2010 sweepstakes, IMO.

Very smart move dumping Billups so Stuckey can flourish tho...that boy is going to be a stud.

Your right, why would he have any interest in going to a young, title contender in Detroit when he can run off to somewhere like New Jersey because of the market while sitting around at home come playoff time. I dont know how you can be so sure that he wouldnt go to Detroit, what does the market really matter anyways? Hes making out just fine in Cleveland and thats not the biggest market in the NBA. Wade really doesnt fit since we resigned Hamilton but I dont see how you can so easily dismiss it as an option.

EDIT- Not sure how accurate Real GM is but according to them there are a ton of free agents in 2010; Al Horford, Paul Pierce, Jason Richardson, Lebron James, Josh Howard, Dirk Nowitzki, Tayshaun Prince, Yao Ming, Mike Dunleavy, TJ Ford, Troy Murphy, Al Thornton, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Dwyane Wade, Richard Jefferson, Michael Redd, Tyson Chandler, Peja Stojakovic, Jamal Crawford, Kevin Durant, Amare, Greg Oden, Tony Parker, Chris Bosh, Andrei Kirilenko, Caron Butler etc.

Now some are unrestricted and some are restricted and Im not sure if any of these players have signed extensions but if not, thats a huge free agent class as of right now.

Okay, so the website is a little confusing, it says Summer 2008, which is technically gone, but shows guys like Iverson and Rasheed who are off the books this summer, being summer 2009. Yet the summer 2009 tab shows a completely different class of players so Im not sure if they should be combined with the 2008 list or the 2010 class or if the entire website is just screwed up and not very organized. If anyone has a complete list for Summer 2010 I would love to see it since I have my doubts this one is complete.

You shouldn't ask that question, because you don't follow him as a die hard fan would. So, do not try to pretend you know what was the situation in Denver like.

The Cavs can offer LeBron more money than any other team. LeBron's not going to take less money to go to Detroit. If he leaves the Cavs, it's only going to be for a bigger market where he'll make up the difference between the contracts through endorsements.
