And I'm not saying you claimed their offense would be deadlier than the elite in the West, but if you're making a trade to get much worse defensively, you can't break even on offense.

When you talk about Suns defense, they are going to see a LOT of pick and roll in NO, SA and Utah before they even get the chance to test out (snicker) Barnes on Kobe. This trade makes those matchups tougher for them.
Well yeah I'm not about to say this puts them in the title talk. My point was, before the trade, they were in serious doubt to even make the postseason. Now, IMO they can be as good as the 4th best team in the West.

They aren't breaking even on offense, though I'm not actually sure what you meant by that. They are pretty damn loaded offensively, as good as anyone out West.

      Saw this last night:

      Via the Arizona Republic--

Boris Diaw did not enjoy how he was being asked to be a more traditional power forward instead of utilizing his versatility.

"It definitely wasn't as fun," Diaw said. "It wasn't as exciting for the fans. It's not as fun for everybody (on the team). I'll always remember Phoenix with (previous coach) Mike (D'Antoni). We went from a winning team that was the most exciting team in the league to a half-winning team that wasn't exciting at all."

      LOL!

I have mixed feelings.. on one hand it's awesome he's so real about everything, on the other, Diaw is a headcase who will never amount to anything special, so him trashing his old team is hilarious.

Not sure what the Bobcats are doing so I have no idea how it makes sense for them.

The Suns...well this would certianly go well with the rumored trade I heard about earlier (before hearing about this and it didn't involve Diaw or Bell) so I would think that perhaps they're not done.

Diaw's right though. The Suns right now have no identity and Nash is miserable. Porter doesnt know if his team is offensive, defensive, fast break, half court, or what they have no philosophy.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

I mean breaking even with the elite in the West. Meaning, by personnel only, they are not a lock to outscore their opponents the way they were in previous years. When D'antoni was there, the personnel and style made them a more potent offense on paper. The acquisition of JRich doesn't make them more potent than the elites, yet they are worse defensively.

It's not a "bad" trade, but I don't think this changes anything meaningful in the West at all. San Antonio's health and NO/LA's continued maturation will still determine who wins the west.

I'm not a complete elitist, but when you're talking about a team that was once in the championship picture, it's hard to put value on a trade that still leaves them on the outside looking in.

No you don't. I work at the arena part time and I'm going to request a raise because this is about to be like watching a train wreck in slow motion. I totally didn't see this one coming. I have no idea how this will benefit the Bobcats at all. Rich was the scorer of the team. I'm so tired of these dumb decisions being made. Rich is a real cool cat...we would joke about his stats because he knew I had him on my fantasy team. I'm happy he's out of prison but I think if the right people were in place in the front office, Charlotte really had something to build around....from what I understand, New Orleans tried to give them the pick they used for Chris Paul in exchange for Charlotte two picks they used on Felton and May....don't forget they picked Morrison over Rudy Gay and Brandon Roy....and the draft this year when they passed on Lopez in order to draft Augustine when they knew good and d*** well they needed a center so that Okafor could go back to playing power forward. That front office is running that team straight into the ground. And if JRich wasn't bad enough, the rumor is Wallace will be gone soon.

                      Its not fun playing defense

We used to have fun under DAntoni chucking up shots without reprimand
and on the other side of the court, all we had to worry about was when we got back down on offense again.

With this new guy, when I came in I didnt know to play defense. Its the first time in my career someone asked me to.

Man I sure do miss DAntoni. It was alot easier being a half complete player
plus he got me that 9 million

If its not that fun Diaw be happy they shipped you out of town buddy because Larry Brown is going to skin that French hide of yours.

No one was/is buying into what Kerr or Porter are selling, though. Not his fault that D'Antoni brought in people that were good for his system and what he wanted to do. Diaw is directly one of those players.

Ex, the Suns already WERE a deadly offensive threat. And just a little point to touch on. Diaw is as soft as tissue paper on the court, but ironically, he was the only one doing a damn thing late in the games against the Spurs in this past playoffs. Games 4 and 5, he was schooling whoever was put on him down low. His mere presence creates mismatches for whoever is guarding him down low. It was nice actually having someone with a low-post game, even if he only used his nuts like 15% of the time. The Spurs board right now is practically throwing a party that Bell and Diaw are gone, that should tell you enough.

The death of the D'Antoni-era Suns is one of the saddest stories in basketball. Seriously, I loved watching those teams and they were clearly the most aesthetically-pleasing basketball in the last few years.. maybe ever (Showtime Lakers come to mind). That 04-05 edition was absolutely ridiculous.

The problem is the team as is, is not enough to play the kind of defense effective enough to win a ring. They weren't going to win one outgunning people either.

Even if they had Marion they weren't looking that good. He can complain all day, and im no fan of Porter either but the philosophy is right. The implementation might be wrong, but the Suns won't be winning a thing without playing some defense.

Any coach should know not to totally ignore one side of the ball to throw the weight completely on the other. That's how JVG lost his job and is in the booth right now. Rick Adelman was smart when he came in and said im going to keep some of what Jeff did and incorporate some of my offense into it. That is a great way to ease your players into a new system without being overly drastic.

Yet and still, Diaw and Bell weren't going to do anything for the Suns this year even if Dantoni was here that would get them over the hump. That teams window closed on them, and now the fans need to be patient because the Suns are going to be overhauled sooner or later.
