How do you feel about the Spurs c-ship in 99?

I had a interesting convo w\ a Spurs fan, (apparantly theres more than 3 in NC) who doesnt feel like the Spurs 99 championship was valid UNTIL the follow up in 03.

How do you guys feel about it?
I was just as pumped about 99 as I was about he next 3!

EDIT: please dont waste your time saying you dont care either way or something "witty" like that..

I didn't care though, so what do you expect me to say?

J/K man lol but I was glad when they won it that year. I was thinking about the fact that it was a "shortened season" because I don't think it would've made a difference either way. Didn't think it would start the beginning of a dynasty though.

Now 03, let's just say the Spurs weren't on my Fave 5 list: 1. Tim Duncan, IMO, stealing my man Kidd's MVP Award...2. Spurs beating us in the Finals and witnessing Stephen Jackson just go off on us.

Now, there actually one of my favorite teams to watch because of Duncan, watching Pop in action(take notes Lawrence Frank)and because they know how to play Basketball the right way, which is tough defense and efficient offense.

A ring is a ring. I remember everyone competing like the spurs including the lakers in the playoffs to try and get that ring. It seems petty and classless to try and minimize that achievement like people like Phil Jackson did once becoming LA's coach along with others .
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

I felt great about it and was glad they won. David Robinson was one of my favorite players and I was very happy when he finally got one. Everyone had the same amount of time off, and every team in those playoffs was trying to win it.

I'm an idiot. I could never remember those years correctly. They all meshed together, I guess.

Avery winning it was worth it but that year should definitely have an asterisk by it. It felt rushed and the backlash against the NBA was very bad.

I've never understood the asterisk talk.

Every team played under the same circumstances and the Spurs emerged as the best. They had the best record in the regular season and won the title.

It doesn't matter if players weren't in proper shape heading into the season or if they were rusty because every player on every team was dealing with that. The Spurs were just as out of shape at the beginning of the year as anybody else.

Haha I love Phil for that. Honestly, he has nothing to hate or be jealous of.. he damn near can wear a ring on each finger..

With that said, I've always viewed that year as a *, but not like a Barry Bonds *. It is what it is, no hate involved here.

Sure each team played the same amount of games, but playing 3 games in a row, AND basically playing half a season is a joke.

It takes NOTHING away from Duncan's/Admiral's/anyone involved legacy.

EC, If the Lakers won that year and also won their 3 rings in a row (2000-2002) would you be throwing up the * talk or claiming fourpeat?

It was a legitimate championship. The last time I checked, the Spurs aren't personally responsible for the lockout. They made the best of what happened and won it all. It's all fair and square.

LOL Lockout season. Basically that season is one that no one remembers. And for you Spurs fans, yes you did beat the Lakers, but we deserved to lose that series, but that whole "season" was forgotten and I don't think the 99 season should have been played.

I REALLY hope not ALL Lakers fans have that same mentality about it that the previous poster has.

Get out of here with that * junk man lol. Because if you wan't to go by THAT standard, then I guarantee there will be a couple teams who's trophy case are a "few items short" if you know what I mean. Same for NFL and MLB too.
