Please explain.

Dallas is two games out of being a top 4 seed, as well as 5 games out of first in the SW...and over the past week, the Mavs have shown signs of becoming better.

They do need to improve their team, and im sure there will be some "tweaks" to the roster as they go along. I would bet there will be some deals, but it doesnt make sense to just "blow it up" right now.

Never said he wasn't. That's what I meant by "before he's 32", or before he's OUT of his prime. Him being in his prime now is worth squat because as you said, they aren't even in contention for a top seed. His prime only matters if you have a gameplan to capitalize on it, otherwise his prime is best used as trade currency.

Dallas wants a deal that makes them better, not worse. Trading Dirk makes them much worse.

btw, if they trade Dirk for draft picks, the picks arent going to be worth as much anyway, because the team he is traded to is instantly going to be better. The draft is a crap shoot to start with.

trading Dirk for Bosh or Amare doesnt make the Mavs better...and they will have cap space to make a run for Bosh or Amare in '10 and pair BOTH Bosh or Amare and Dirk together.

What does a four seed matter when the top 3 teams in the West are SO much better than the rest? Are we having a discussion about winning a ring, or just getting deep into the playoffs? Cuz if the Mavs just want to get to the WCF and lose, then yeah, they can "tweak" to that.


You haven't painted a scenario how they can tweak to a championship before Dirk is out of his prime. How can they get better than the Lakers, Cavs, Magic and Celtics in the next two-three years?

IMO, putting Bosh with Dirk isn't going to cut it. At all. Especially since Kidd will be done and Terry will be declining. Now I'm not saying they should definitely trade Dirk. I'm saying they should explore every situation to make themselves a real championship team within three years, and if they can't do that, then they should have some foresight and trade him when they can get something really nice(and younger) for him.
