Damn, this VC being traded stuff is really heating up:

The Nets and Mavericks have discussed a trade that would send Vince Carter to Dallas, a league source familiar with the discussions said Thursday night. The proposed deal, which isn't imminent, would send Carter, Keyon Dooling and Eduardo Najera to the Mavericks for Josh Howard and Jerry Stackhouse. The San Antonio Spurs are also pursuing Carter and have discussed a proposal that would include Roger Mason, Bruce Bowen and Fabricio Oberto. For the Nets, dealing Carter would be a financial move.

If im the Mavs, I don't know if this move makes sense financially and if im the Spurs, why give up on Roger Mason already?

Because Manu is declining, and they need to replace that ability to score one on one. Between Manu's decline and their lack of complimentary big man for Timmy, they lose too much when Tim sits down. I think the VC trade is a good look for them for the next two years. That's important, because they can't think long term with Tim and Manu's age anyway. Tim is still great right now, but three years from now he's going to have to be the second, third option.

A J.Kidd, Tha Carter, and Dirkinator combo???

I still don't want us to trade him right now though. I'd rather hold on to him til at least the offseason before shopping him around. But if we do trade him to Dallas, we might have to swap out Keyon Dooling with someone else(Trenton Hassell possibly)since he's basically our only reliable backup PG option behind The Dude.

That would be a great deal for the Mavs and would bolster up their strength for the playoffs. It would definitely at least on paper put them on another plane.

Vince in SA if he listens to Pop would be downright scary

                    Re: 2/9-2/15 NBA Discussion

Cavs, Spurs, Rockets, Mavs all interested in VC. I also read that a Mavs deal seems unlikely unless Josh Howard is included in the deal.

Rod Thorn and Kiki Vandeweghe are in Phoenix, enjoying the warm weather and trying to convince rival executives to help improve the Nets.

Thorn, the Nets’ president, and Vandeweghe, the general manager, have assets other teams are interested in, and should be very busy this All-Star Weekend.

The Nets’ brain trust recovered nicely from being forced to trade Jason Kidd last February and deciding to move Richard Jefferson in June. The Nets are in the playoff hunt, which few expected when this team started the season with three rookies, two second-year players and seven potential rotation guys 25 and younger.

"We’re probably a little bit ahead of where most people thought we would be at this time," Thorn said.

Devin Harris has blossomed into a first-time All-Star, rookie Brook Lopez looks like a franchise center and Yi Jianlian was showing signs of improvement before breaking his right pinkie last month. He may return Tuesday in Houston.

If these young players continue their rapid development they could help the Nets reach the postseason. Some others could be pieces that help Nets officials make a deal that could get them over the top in a tightly contested race for the Eastern Conference’s last four playoff spots.

Tough decisions lie ahead before Thursday’s trade deadline.

The Nets are 24-29, four games out of fifth, one out of eighth, yet four out of 14th.

They are not a player or two from being championship contenders and if they trade Vince Carter they’ll likely save money and add assets, but be out of the race.

Should they be buyers or sellers? "We’re purveyors of the scene," Thorn said.

The Nets, like many teams now, have to be concerned with the economic climate and having flexibility in the summer of 2010 when a star-studded class led by LeBron James and Dwyane Wade becomes free agents.

"You’re constantly re-evaluating your team, both looking at short-term and long-term goals," Thorn said. "You’re always looking to gather as many young assets as you can."

If the Nets stand pat, making the playoffs would be an achievement considering they widely were picked to finish 14th or 15th in the East. The Nets would help their chances by winning at home, defending better and playing more consistently.

You expect inconsistency from young teams, but Harris has played in the NBA Finals, while Carter, Jarvis Hayes, Keyon Dooling and Eduardo Najera have been in intense playoff series. For the Nets to succeed, the veteran experience will be as important as the kids growing up.

"We’re a middle-of-the-road team," Harris said. "There’s room for improvement."
Where does the improvement come from: outside or within?

The Nets had exploratory discussions about Amare Stoudemire, inquired about Mike Miller and Caron Butler and were in talks about Chicago’s Larry Hughes. Nets officials could resume some talks or spark new ones this weekend.

The Spurs, Rockets, Mavericks and Cavaliers are among the teams interested in Carter. One scenario has Carter going to Houston in a package that includes Ron Artest’s expiring contract. Dallas has dangled Jerry Stackhouse and parts, but unless one part is Josh Howard it makes little basketball sense.

"We set out a business plan a year ago and we’re going to build with our young players," Vandeweghe said. "The one thing we won’t do is sort of go for Band Aid fixes that compromise our long-term plans or for that matter hurt the development of your young players. I think that’s a mistake.

"If we can do something to improve our team within our game plan and business plan we’re definitely going to do it."
One thing I will say is that Kiki Vanderweghe has done an excellent job with this team since he and Rod Thorn teamed up. He's helped build a nice solid roster and has this team set up to make some moves if we choose to either this year or next. The future is definitely bright for us Nets Fans.

Haha if NJ and Dallas keep swapping players these guys are gonna have to buy a house in each city.

Devin and Josh Howard running in NJ would be pretty cool... I think Josh can have a big-time impact on the right team. Kidd, Terry, Vince, and Dirk is a downright scary offensive group.

Vince would help Dallas, but IMO he'd put SA at the top of the league. His D has improved, he's been consistent, his late game play has been at the top of the league, and he thrives when there is no pressure on him. If I were SA, I'd be moving mountains to make this happen.

If I were Jersey, I'd be trying to convince Phoenix that a Nash, Carter, Richardson lineup would work.

Oh yea no doubt...him on either San Antonio or Dallas would be scary(even video game scary lol). But him, Tony, Manu, Timmay, and Pop all on the same team, with FINALLY a real shot at a title = an even MORE motivated VC.

The Mavs are only a game out of 4th in the west, so a move like would instantly make them that much better offensively and team that I wouldn't want to face in the first 2 rounds of the playoffs.
