Colangelo to offer Bos extension this summer...will Bosh sign ?? (Maybe so)

    Here's the link.

Colangelo had a press confrence today and known that he plans to extend Bosh.

I now believe he will resign this summer. (Along with LBJ and DWade).

    - The cap is going to fall this season.
    - The CBA ends after next season, which owners will be looking to shorten contracts, and lower max deals.
    - Teams that were looking to sign two "max" players on 2010 would now not be able to because signing to max players in 2010, plus a lower cap, and a new CBA would use up a teams entire cap space and would not realistic.
    - I also read an article that the agents of LBJ, DB and WAde were advising them to sign extensions this summer because of the pending CBA, lowering of the cap and the economy in general the most money to be made is this summer.

What are your guys thoughts on this ??? Does this all point to Bosh resigning ???

Also if he does resign............is Bosh worth a max deal ??? (i know he will get a max deal no matter what the CBA or cap is) but if you were a GM would you give Bosh the max and eat up that much of your cap space ??

Wow. As much as I like Chris Bosh as a player and as a person, I don't think he's worth max value. Without going into specifics... to me, a big man who deserves max value has to be a straight up demon in the paint on both ends of the floor, and Bosh just isn't there.

See...the thing is. I believe CB has reached his ceiling. He is what he is. I dont see him getting any better at this point. He's not going to start rebounding like KG (eventhough CB did average 20 & 10 this year) and I dont see him as the guy who can put the team on his back and get the W.

I have two worries with this and it's really a lose-lose situation.

        1) I'm worried about gving him the max deal when he has already maxed out as player.

        2) I dont want to let him go and become part of the growing list of players that left Toronto.

as much persecution as Bosh has taken this season for not winning, i can't see him resigning in Toronto unless they make some other significant moves which they won't have the money to do if they give him a max deal...

I mostly agree with #1. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Bosh already being maxed out since he’s a very talented player now. But offering him a max deal would be too much. I can’t say anything about #2, though.

And I don’t think it’s much of a problem of him putting a team on his back, as his inability to command frequent double teams on the offensive end or make teammates around him better on either end of the floor. Opposing teams respect Bosh’s game, but not to the point where they feel Bosh needs a lot of extra attention and game-planning to be dealt with in order to beat the Raptors. For example, it’s possible to guard Bosh straight up without paying a big price for doing so, and an opposing team won’t have to worry about him intimidating ball handlers driving to the basket and altering/blocking shots near the basket on the defensive end. In a nutshell this is why I do not think Bosh is a max-deal worthy big man.

Bosh will be able to set market value since he’s the best player available at his position plus he has leverage over the Raptors organization toward getting whatever he wants to stay with the team – max contract included. But in terms of measuring his value as a basketball player in comparison to other elite players in the NBA, I still don’t believe he’s worthy of a max contract.

Duncan, KG, Dirk, and Amare are all much better players than Bosh (and the first 3 at age 24 aren't even close). I don't see much separating him from Jamison, Aldridge, West, or Gasol.

I see him as a max contract in Toronto, but only in about 2-3 other places (Milwaukee for sure). Everywhere else, he's a good, but not great PF.

When the raps sent JO to the Heat for Marion they got cap relief THIS summer. Marion's 17 mil (I think that's how much he made this year). Will be coming off the cap. So the Raps do have room to put a "piece" around CB.

how is Marion's dough coming off the books if they plan to keep him?

Marion is probably not sticking around, according to the way he talks about his contract situation after the season. The Raps, in all honesty, are looking to use him in a sign and trade.

tbh, I would like to see Bosh win as a second-fiddle somewhere else. He probably doesn't have a shot in Toronto because of all the factors that limit Toronto from getting (and keeping) top tier players in basketball and baseball - American bias, living in a foreign country, family, etc.

Exactly....if management see's Marion as that piece, they can try to resign him (I wouldn't) or use the money that as of July 1st will be free'd up and sign someone else.

isnt he on a Player option? if he doesn't get the money he thinks he should get (and he likely won't) he will just come back & take the 17 mil that the raps are obligated to pay leaving "NO DOUGH"
