Shaq went for the ball. He got a piece of it. He got called for a F-2. Rondo did not even come within a foot of the ball. That should be a F-1. Missed call on the most important possesion of the game.
If you use that as a basis for comparison then you just use no discretion or interpretation of the rule. The point of the rule is to protect guys from getting hurt and they have to do something to keep Shaq or people his sized from mauling people because they can literally kill them. I know your argument will thus be the rule is the rule but I think the rule is there to serve a purpose, and the NBA has operated under that principle in many many cases. Maybe its wrong and hypocritical I dunno. I think the call was right tonight overall, and yes I am a homer.

Shaq went for the ball and got some head (perverts save laughs please). Rajon Rondo went for ball and got face. I don't see the difference, a rule is a rule.

And btw if the rule was the rule every game would be called exactly the same way and we know this is not the case. The only time I have problems with officiating is when it's blatantly in favor of one team for an extended time or a team gets a call that gives them a distinct unfair advantage. In this case I don't think either of those things happened so that's the main reason I'm defending it.

Plus, Miller had to get stitches. It was reckless and he wasnt close to the ball.

Well, which oppurtunity would you rather have? A layup for $100 or 2 free throws for $100. Now think about when you are seven feet tall. There is no question that making two free throws is harder for anybody who's ever touched a basketball, so the Celtics DID get an unfair advantage. They got to take away an easy basket ILLEGALLY with no real penalty.

I don't wanna make excuses for Miller missing the FTs because he had the opportunity to send the game to OT...

                  But...

It was clearly a flagrant foul by the letter of the law. Maybe Rondo wasn't TRYING to hurt him, but he was nowhere NEAR the ball and he slapped his face from behind on an admittedly "hard playoff foul." If a grown man slaps you in the face hard, I don't care how big you are, you are gonna feel it. Plus he caught Miller on his blind side. He could have potentially caused a neck injury.

The main reason they should have called a flagrant on that is because they were ready to eject Miller from the previous game on the foul he had on Big Baby until the replays showed that Big Baby flopped. How come they couldn't use replays to review this flagrant?

That is actually a very good point. I think in this situation you just don't even consider the possibility of a PG flagrant fouling a Center because it happens so rarely (unfortunately or not)

                        Brad Miller

I don't know where he gets off calling the Celtics headhunters. It was a play to stop the basket. Nothing more than that. They weren't trying to hurt or injure anybody.

Those that point out the size differential

So what? Show me in the rule book where there is a weight class that judges whether a foul is flagrant or not.

Those that point to Rondo's intentions

So what? Tell me where intent is in the rule book. Its the recklessness that is judged. Rondo was looking to stop the basket, period. He wasn't aiming for the face. But that's what he got. And its for wild plays like that the "flagrant" is put in the rule book.

As was said before, if a superstar got tagged like that, he'd be suspended. But if you are a superstar like Howard, you merely get t'd up if you throw a blow. It shouldn't matter what is the uniform, who's in the uniform or what time frame we are in the game. Call it like it should consistently.

                        That was a flagrant foul.

First off, LMAO @ people continuing to complain about the obvious which is the Officiating.

Second, If FTs are made this is not even an issue and we don't have an 8 page thread about this. FACT.

From a non-bias opinion seeings I do not care for either team.

Rondo went to double Gordon and lost sight of Miller and came back and tried to make the lay-up hard for Miller, not a flagrant. Not even close.

Miller more than likely got caught up in his own emotions and said things out of pure emotion. I do agree with some of you in saying that if he had made those and the game's outcome had changed, he probably would not of sprouted off the way he did. But hey, it is playoff basketball, things like this are gonna happen. Especially seeing 4 out of the 5 games in this series have come down to the final possession.

Tell me something about this playoff attitude, because I don't understand it. Do the refs throw less flags in an NFL playoff game? How about in the World Series, do the umps allow for head hunting? When you hit a guy in the face from behind on an open layup, it is a flagrant. ESPECIALLY when the guy does not come within a foot of the other guy's head. There is no such thing as a playoff foul in any other sport, so why do you guys use it as an excuse in the NBA?

I don't think it was a flagrant foul, however I can understand some claiming that it was. I don't think it was any intent on Rondo's part. I have seen much less contact be called flagrant though.
