      Basically the whole thing relates.

White guy on Boise State doesn't know how to be a good winner.

Blount doesn't know how to be a good loser.

This is an attitude that permeates sports nowadays. I dunno if anyone watched Lou Holtz on Outside the Lines today, but he summed this whole situation up perfectly. This is a problem that is seen on all levels in all sports.

LeBron didn't punch anybody, but him and this Blount guy's reactions are pretty similar imo, even though Blount was pretty heavily provoked.

Haha I still don't see the connection, honestly.

You are usually spot on with things, IMO, but digging this thread up with the Oregon incident doesn't make any sense.

What Lebron did was just walk off. I don't get what this Oregon thing has to do with LBJ not staying and shaking hands.

Re: How do you feel about congratulating your opponent after a loss?

It's not fair to lump Lebron in with LeGarrett Blount. Lebron's actions were passive, and not a threat to anyone, whereas Blount made himself a security danger to everyone, not only by his own actions, but by the possibility of inciting a brawl.

That having been said, Brankles is right. Sportsmanship solves both problems. If these young men knew how to stand on their feet and accept the responsibility of competition, the responsibility of both winning AND losing, then these situations wouldn't occur. Win or lose, you have to respect your opponent. It is one of the pillars of the foundation of sports.

Re: How do you feel about congratulating your opponent after a loss?

Well obviously sportsmanship is ideal. It'd be best if everyone can smile after and shake hands.

However the point is that to say LBJ's EDIT: reactions were similar to Blount's? That's just plain stupid. LBJ walked off, Blount Rihanna'ed someone. Fail to see the connection.

Like I said Branks is usually spot on but I think he's dragging the witch hunt on a bit too long here.

Obviously physically striking someone is worse than showing disrespect by walking off the court. They're similar in the fact that neither player knew how to handle a loss like a man, Blount's was just much more extreme.

One difference is that Blount actually showed remorse after the incident (probably because he knew he was going to get suspended).

You really believe he was truly sorry for what he did?

                        LBJ won

With the NBA fearful of the damage an H1N1 flu outbreak could create on the league, the league office has passed down an anti-handshake directive.

Players and coaches have been asked to greet each other via more sanitary means of contact, such as fist pounding.

“No handshaking,” Doc Rivers said. “I think it’s a good thing. A fist pound is just great.”

Fist bump would have been nice to see from LeBron. At least I would have understood his reasoning if he was a germophobe.

Oooooh...I thought I had heard there was a mandatory congratulatory email that must be sent from the captain of the losing team to the captain of the winning team. Coupled w/ an update to ones twitter account stating "I'm a winner, but so is Dwight".

I give too many hugs a day to care about this.
