Re: Ariza to HOU, [when it's official, shouldn't we make a new thread?]
That's what I'm thinkin myself.
This could make sense IMO
1. Trev is offered the MLE by LA
2. Trev rejects says he wants more
3. LA says, ok go test the market
4. Trev shops himself
5. In the meantime, Mitch has already been talking to Ron and offers him the MLE as well
6. Ron signs
7. Trev cannot go back to LA, so he picks HOU
Only thing that doesn't add up is why he wouldn't choose POR or TOR since they were reportedly offering him more than the MLE.Comment

Re: Ariza to HOU, [when it's official, shouldn't we make a new thread?]
I heard he felt unappreciated by getting offered the MLE. He thought he earned more than just a "low ball" offer. If he got the same from the Rockets, he probably just wants to show what he can do if he's one of the main options.-August 17, 1960Originally posted by VP Richard M. See this is what I'm thinking as well, and if it's the truth then I just have to SMH.
It's one thing to feel unappreciated, it's another to sign with a lesser team for the same contract. Just doesn't make cents to me.Comment

Re: Ariza to HOU, [when it's official, shouldn't we make a new thread?]
Yeah I think we're on the same page here..Originally posted by PrettyT11Well from what the video is saying Ariza thought LA would offer him more than just the MLE. When they didn't he decided to see what other offers he might could get. But the main thing that you guys might be missing is that he didn't sign his deal with Houston until AFTER Artest signed with the Lakers. So it was pretty safe to say that the deal with LA would have been off the table. So he signed with Houston. It wasn't the same deal at the time when he signed. It was the same deal money wise but they where offered at different times.
The crazy part is if he did take LA's affer from the start where would Artest be now?? Crazy how one player can change the landscape of the NBA title contenders.
You're right, Ron would have been in CLE IMO
So you don't think POR or TOR reports were true that they were offering Trev more? I would assume they were false..Comment

Re: Ariza to HOU, [when it's official, shouldn't we make a new thread?]
You're probably right, but like I said Trev was one of my favorite Lakers. Oh well it was shortlived anyway.
I'm assuming I'll get over it like when Ronny left for the same reasons.Comment

I deleted my post saying that is what happened from the sound of the video and the article.. From what the video is saying that is what happened. The crazy thing is what if he took that offer from jump. Where would Artest be now??That's what I'm thinkin myself.

As far as Portland and Toronto goes I don't believe Portland offered him more than that. Not when they are trying hard for Turk. They can't sign them both so unless they know Turk isn't signing I don't see them making an offer to him for more than the MLE. As far as Toronto hell they are worse than the Rockets even without Yao. I wouldn't sign with them either. Especially not knowing what Bosh is going to do. If he walks then they have less than nothing and he would be stuck on a last place team for the rest of his deal.Comment

Re: Ariza to HOU, [when it's official, shouldn't we make a new thread?]
If it is the reason, I don't blame him one bit. He's got the ring. Earning another w/LA isn't going to make him more valuable, because he'll be seen as riding on Kobe/Gasol's coattails. If he thinks he can become a player worthy of big money, this is the exact move to make.-August 17, 1960Originally posted by VP Richard M. On paper that makes total sense. If it is the reason, I don't blame him one bit. He's got the ring. In reality we all know he isn't going to prove that he's worth more than the MLE. Especially on that HOU team.
Even the casual fan can see that Trevor is not a 3rd option. He's a 4th or 5th option. A lesser complimentary player than Shane Battier IMO, just younger.Comment

Re: Ariza to HOU, [when it's official, shouldn't we make a new thread?]
Originally posted by AdandeJust as telling is the Lakers' decision to go with Artest instead of younger Trevor Ariza. It shows they're putting everything into these next three years and not worrying too much about the future. Ariza would have wanted a five-year contract; Artest was willing to come for three. The end of Artest's contract coincides with the reported opt-out clause for Bryant. We don't know whether Kobe will choose to leave in 2012, but we do know this: He'll be 33 that summer, turning 34 in August. The three years with Artest probably represent Bryant's last stages of physical superiority over the opposition. He'll still be ahead of the pack in knowledge and determination, but we've already seen some slipping in his athletic ability and it will only decline from here.
Looks like Ariza wanted more years. Not only did LA upgrade, they kept their cap flexibility for Kobes re-up.Last edited by HMcCoy; 07-03-2009, 12:08 AM.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Ariza to HOU, [when it's official, shouldn't we make a new thread?]
Bingo. I was just going to post this.. I believe LA only wanted to do 3 from further reading. Although I cannot be 100% sure.
Still the thought of a straight up trade between LA and HOU is just mind bogglingComment

Re: Ariza to HOU, [when it's official, shouldn't we make a new thread?]
I have no idea what they plan to do with Shane and Trev. Basically the same player no?
Neither can post up. At least Ron could do it a bit and mix it up inside.
Trev and Shane are strictly catch and shoot perimeter players.. Trev can slash a tiny bit.
