I heard Van Gundy will or has already signed with Cleveland. If so it'll be a good move for the Cavs as he's a very good motivator and is a master at taking little talent and turning them into world beaters.

Re: why is everybody so high on jeff van gundy?

I have to agree with the topic in a sense. I think Van Gundy would be a horrible fit for a young team, eespecially Cleveland. He simply does not have the patience for losing and he has not proven that he is a good teacher.
He likes dealing with veterans and the only true veteran on the Cavs is Ilgauskas (sp?).
Van Gundy does not like to play rookies although if he went to Cleveland he'd be forced to play his young players.
Van Gundy was able to succeed in NY simply because he was there for so long as an assistant and he earned the trust and respect of the players who were all veterans. He wouldn't have to same success in Cleveland with the likes of Ricky Davis (triple double by any means necessary) and LeBron James (I play for Nike).
Van Gundy's best fit would be with the Rockets IMO because Steve Francis has matured into a leader and Van Gundy would be good for Yao.

Cleveland is too much for Van Gundy to take on and he'd have to sign LONG term to get this team to the playoffs. I hear LeBron mouthing off about how the Cavs need to surround him with veteran players...WTF? Did he all of a sudden turn into the GM? And at 18 he is too studpid to realize that to get a veteran player they'll probalby have to make a trade and give up some sort of compensation like a future draft pick which will further slow the development of the team.

The Cavs are funny if they think they're playoff bound. You don't go from 14 wins to the playoffs with an 18 year old. And Van Gundy should take that into account. Also, Van Gundy is a defensive-minded coach. He's not an offensive guru so I think he would stifle LeBron a bit by slowing down the game.

Van Gundy's a good coach, but he needs to step into a veteran situation.

Re: why is everybody so high on jeff van gundy?

I'm not even gonna quote you cuz it seemed like you purposely tried to debate my every single sentence....

                              1) Rookies- How would you know if a rookie is good or not if you don't give him Playing Time? And how does a rookie develop if he doesn't get quality minutes during a game?
Van Gundy goes with a 7 (or 8 MAX) man rotation throughout the year and makes it even tighter during playoffs.

By the way, Van Gundy never held a press conference saying "I don't like to play rookies." That would be kinda ********...If you ever watched his stint as head coach, you would see by his rotation.

                              2) Patience for losing
Ummm...guy quits 19 games into the season after an early losing streak saying he doesn't see the passion in his players and felt it would only get worse.

                              3) GM LeBron James
When the hell has a guy, who hasn't even been drafted yet (HELLO) talk about roster moves and this from a high school kid? LeBron needs to slow it down a ton. He basically slapped the current Cavs players in their faces without even have stepped on the court yet.
Yeah, players make suggestions about rosters every single season. BadIntentions, guess what- LeBron isn't even a player yet.

                              4) Veterans
There aren't many quality veteran free agents on the market. And for the free agents that are out there, regardless of what you think, none of them would be stupid enough to go to Cleveland. I've seen interviews with Gary Payton, Jason Kidd, Jermaine O'Neal, etc. and not one mentioned Cleveland soooooo.....trades would be the best route.
Secondly, there isn't a team out there that's trading for a Darius Miles or a Ricky Davis (because of his antics) straight-up. Cleveland is gonna have to throw picks in there to make it happen.

                              5) Playoff bound
Yes, I was referring to the cav's FANS, but thanks for noticing...... (I think you took nitpicking way too far with that one).

                              6) Van Gundy- Defensive minded coach
1st off...please don't compare in any regards, Allen Iverson to LeBron James. There are no parallels there. Allen has a green light on every possession and Van Gundy hasn't shown that he likes to give that kind of freedom to any one player.
In a slower paced game, LeBron won't have as many scoring opportunities IMO as he would if he played in another system.

...I dunno whatever your need was to go through my post with a fine-tooth comb but it's kinda unnecessary kid. It's cool to disagree with someone's Opinions but to ask a question on every single point made like some type of lawyer is a bit too much. If you didn't like my post, ignore it man. But there's no need for all the attention cuz I'm straight without it...

(and trust me, for the sake of the moderators, that was heavily toned down).
