Depends on the players also. If they will sense that MAVS will become a championship team next season, Malone might sign up for a minimum. But for now the best teams a player (seeking for a championship ring) is either SA or Lakers. Maybe even SAC if Webber can stay healthy.
A player also has to check if he will matter on the team whether offensive or defensive. Especially on Malone's age he is prone to injury so he is better off a backup player rather than to rely on him to start. The healthiest team he could go is SA or LA. Cu'z whether he plays or not. he knows someone on the court can carry his back for the meantime while he recovers. Something MAVS cannot offer him on their current lineup.
But it's his life for all I care.

These Mavs fans think they can get every all star free agent when they have no cap room!

For those that think the Mailman doesn't have a lot in his tank may I refer you to another sport: baseball, the player: Roger Clemens.

Everybody said he was washed up when he left Boston and came to Toronto. The guy recharged his batteries with the idea that the Jays would be contenders (sadly they didn't contend) and had 2 of the greatest seasons in modern history for a pitcher.

I see the same kind of thing happening for Malone in Dallas as he would get far more playing time then he would if he went to LA. I'm not saying he's going to have mind blowing stats but he'll perform up to his abilities.

I won't doubt that he has a lot of stuff on his tank, all I am saying is you can't rely on him to start all season and the entire playoffs because he facing younger player who can wear him out. Remember Kings Jazz series?
Also being an injury prone it won't matter how full is your tank. It will happen.
Also even if he signup with MAVS he still has to face either LA or SA to reach the finals. If I am Malone, I'd rather play either one of this TEAMS than against them.
Higher chances of getting the RING. (The one that FRODO kept on his pocket).

Injury prone? The man's only missed something like 20 something games in his entire CAREER!

Besides I doubt he'll start all year. There'll probably be a rotation going on so that he doesn't wear out too soon in the playoffs.

Malone won't put great numbers up because he'd be the 5th option on offense Dirk, Nash, Finley, and Van Exel all better scorers IMO.
