I think it will do wonders for him playing alongside Tim Duncan. Of course, maybe not in the eyes of Pop who shuffles through big men every other month because they all have the "I look like crap playing next to Tim Duncan" syndrome. Blair is something else though. The Spurs desperately needed rebounders and we got to draft Blair.

Both cases make for awesome blessings.

LOL @ prototypical boring Spurs lineup... yep, that's the one...

Yeah, JR running point with that group would just be craziness... haha, I can't wait for the world to implode when JR, Flight, K-Mart and Birdman are all on the floor at the same time and try to dunk the same ball. It'll be some Marty McFly getting hit on by his mom time continuum ****.

            1. How do you figure Dice will be starting at center and guarding the opposing center? Duncan aint no damn PF!
            2. You have Manu starting to begin the season?
            3. By the end of the season you predict Bogans will completely fall out of the rotation?

Nice look at how Artest should fit into the Triangle: http://forums.lakersground.net/blog....angle-offense/

Good refresher on how the Triangle itself works as well and why it's so effective, especially with freakin Kobe out there.

I did it more from an offensive standpoint because Duncan will get a lot of touches going against PF's to start, but as the season progresses, I see the offensive load shift Tony Parker's way, as he goes for about 23-24 points per game with an additional 8 assists a game (considering the weapons now around him).

I think will Manu will begin as starter as he always does. Pop always maximizes the lineup at the beginning of the season, and leaves the refitting to the buildup of the season (in which he always then realizes how perfect Manu is for the 6th man role).

Keith Bogans may or may not fall out of the rotation, but he's a low-profile signing. He is making the veteran minimum so the Spurs won't think twice about giving another player especially one in development stages such as Marcus Williams, some more playing time. I think Williams, if given the chance, will wow San Antonio, in that role of course. His Point-forward skills will make him a commodity in a league that is becoming more and more saturated by the Gerald Wallace/Rudy Gay Small-Forward breed that pass like they dribble with their heads down.

I know Bogans provides a little bit of defensive wizardry, but Williams is no slouch himself. He is a little wiry, but he doesn't shy away from the glass. He's more on the gritty side like Tayshaun Prince, but he could still increase his overall physicality.

I never realized Manu started to begin the season. Where the F have I been?

Also, if Marcus Williams can crack the San Antonio Spurs' rotation I'll be 10000% amazed/shocked. This guy was about as up and down even at Arizona. He's one of those guys who really doesn't do one thing great. To be honest though, I haven't seen him play at any level since college.

I like to watch my Austin Toros as well as my Spurs, so I've witnessed. Marcus Williams is much, MUCH better than when he was at Arizona. He's practically not even the same player.

Ariza > Artest as a defender. Offensively I don't think the Lakers had to worry about offense, except PG play.

Yeah I figured you had some sort of insight.

Well we shall see about that fella.

What do you think about your depth at the 4 and 5?

IMO if Duncan doesn't play to his "greatest PF ever" name I don't believe you have enough. If Duncan does play up to that regard then I think you'll have just enough to push for a ring.

Also, Hell no Ariza>Artest as a defender. What makes you say that JR?

Last year in the playoffs, the Lakers were almost knocked out simply because they had nobody to defend Melo and Artest on the block, they had nobody to box them out either.

                            Re: Off-Season West Conf Discussion

Duncan's offensive load is going to be lifted with the roster's restored health, and newcomers. Duncan drawing out bigs with his shooting ability creates room for Parker to drive and finish... this tactic gets stronger every year. With more energy dedicated to the glass and defense, Duncan will do all that he has to do for the Spurs. I agree with the questioning of depth for our bigs though. We've made great strides to address that, but the final candidate for the starting job alongside Duncan is still a crap-chute. Each guy ('Dyess, Bonner, Blair, Mahinmi) will be able to do things that the guy next to him can't do and it will garner Pop's attention, but they will all suffer the from the same syndrome that past Spurs bigs have suffered... and that is, playing next to Duncan, no matter who you are, makes you look insufficient. I think DeJaun Blair will inevitably break through that mold though.

It's tough to say that someone drafted 37th will be a sick-nasty player without everyone coming out of the wood work looking to chop my head off. But I'm going to say it anyways. DeJaun Blair is a top 3 player in that draft, and we shall soon see why.

actually...youre right and wrong Locke..but I know you already knwo that.

Basically Ariza as a perimiter defender has obvious quicker lateral foot speed which makes him cutting angles to the basket better...especially when guarding some of the quicker SF/SG...Artest is getting older and last years PO's was noticablly slower guarding the perimiter.

HOWEVER artest is a far more physically intimidating defensive presence, and he has the ability to guard the post as well...(Ariza cant do that...at all)

Offensivly, having another low post option is NEVER a bad idea...ever.

I mean we are talking about adding another player who can score 20+ppg in the NBA, to the Triangle offense where the majority of his looks will be high percentage...

Defensivly he is a vast upgrade as now you can have confidence when he is guarding a big SF who tries to post, or a guard out on the perimiter where he can use his physicality and defensive insticts to funnel them into Gasol or Bynum.

                                Artest > Ariza
