Yeah you actually did.. by my logic that means your West contenders are LA/Spurs/Mavs/Nuggets

That's just by my logic. Which is if your team can make the conference finals, you are a contender.

Honestly if DAL secured Gortat, I would have put them right on DEN's level.. they would have had a decent option for easy catch and dunk opportunities. Damp is anything but that. Also Gortat in limited action showed, even in the playoffs, that he can rebound. I have DAL right behind DEN but I don't trust Marion at all.

And TMagic, I stated that I do not see anyone out West beating LA all things equal.

However I do not put SA in that same class. They are my clear cut #2, however I could see Denver beating them, but nobody else.

I can't even see Denver beating SA, even if both are healthy and for 2 reasons:

        1. George Karl in a big series = at least one guaranteed **** up.
        2. I think TP can do to Chauncey what Rondo was doing to him when he was in Detroit.

That's a series that I can easily see ending in 5 or 6 with Denver taking 1 or 2 at home.

all I know is that the west is going to be a blast to watch this season

as far as LA, no doubt the champs are still the class of the conference. However, I dont know if they are going to be better with Artest. I tend to see Artest as somewhat "overrated" these days. His negatives tend to offset his positives. I dont know why they felt like they needed to fix what wasnt broken to start with. They injected a wild card into a team that had great chemistry.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see if the Lakers are better or worse....Ex, do you see them being better this season?(that would be a scary thought)

Yeah, I'd rather my Nugs match up against LA in the Conference Finals than SA. Seriously, the Spurs will always find a way to win in that situation unless they're badly injured. At least they have the experience of playing a full-strength LA last year and making it a close series (relatively speaking... 2 of those games would've gone either way, they traded blowouts), I think that definitely helps their chances... Plus whenever you play a team in a playoff series, you get mountains of film, so generally they'll be better against the Lakers than they were this year, but a team like SA that really changes its lineup will be a whole new ballgame.

as far as San Antonio, I dont know what makes people sure that Manu is going to be the same player that he was before the chronic ankle injuries started...Although, he has never had the chance to rest this much in an offseason, so that could make a difference.

                Re: Off-Season West Conf Discussion

DEN does not want it with LA, I'm sorry.

They have Affalo and Smith to throw at Kobe? Maybe Balkman.. Nope.

Melo won't be able to beat up on the smaller/thinner Ariza's and Bryant's.

Now I honestly haven't seen SA healthy in a year and a half or more.. so that's why I say I give DEN a chance. SA will be inserting several new pieces.. we'll see how fast Pop can get them to mesh. I'm sure they'll be just fine..

But yeah my point is if I'm a DEN fan I want SA rather than LA.

True, it will be interesting to see how effective RJ will be. RJ can mask some of Manu's struggles after being oft-injured.

LA will be fine. Ron will be fine in a reduced role. He took the MLE, that says enough to me. He won't need to be a second wheel anymore.

                        Re: Off-Season West Conf Discussion

Balkman to throw at Kobe, actually. But yeah, I get your point -- they don't have great matchups for their best players (I mostly worry about damn long-armed Gasol, who nobody on our team can handle). I just think that they're in a better position than last year simply because they had the experience two years in a row. And really, Balkman can defend the **** out of Kobe... he's one of the best man defenders in the league despite rarely getting PT and can bother Kobe with his length. Not worried about Artest on Melo at all really.

I don't like their chances in either of those series, but give me the enemy I know rather than one I don't. And Pop > Phil in terms of making adjustments and punishing teams for not paying attention, which is what he'll do to George if he gets the chance. But yeah, this all hinges on Manu (and Timmy, whose knees looked pretty shot at the end of the season) -- if Manu's even 75% of what he was 2 years ago, they'll be the team to beat... Lakers or not, IMO. Remember that they managed the 3rd seed last season despite Timmy being banged up badly, Manu being out most of the year, etc. They improved a lot via free agency and if those other guys are healthy, they'll be scary.

I still think the Lakers (and everyone else) think they got better than they actually did. I'm a Ron-Ron apologist and I love the guy, but I just think it won't work out quite as well as everyone thinks it will. Not because of his personality or anything like that, but just because I think he's not the basketball fit that Ariza was for this particular team. I'm on an island with that belief for the most part, but I'm pretty confident in it. Other than Artest, they did nothing and I think SAS did more (again, with Manu playing decently), especially in regards to depth. The Lakers bench is basically GARBAGE except for Lamar (Farmar/Brown are debatable, but basically question marks as to whether they can play a bigger role than last season).

No I am talking about the backcourt of Ellis and Curry. It has already been stated that they want to play the both of them together. Which would make that a very small, thin, and defenless backcourt. When they do put them on the court together they will be abused constantly. Plus you, I, and everybody else knows Nelson likes playing that dumb *** small ball and plays Jackson at the forward. Hell he spends more time playing PF than SG under Nelson. Nice try on trying to be funny though.

It's been discussed before but basically what Trevor brought that Ron doesn't offer is constant activity without the ball and his ability to get out on the break.

If Ron comes in with the right mindset, what exactly would hinder him from being just as good a fit as Trevor? In all other areas I see Ron being superior.

I will however give Trevor credit too for hitting open timely threes. The guy had a knack for knocking down game changers. Hopefully Ron will be able to do the same.

that wont happen... besides jack never played PF last year... that was maggete.
I think i remmeber one game when jack played PF but that was cause Wright was injured...

obviously monta and curry might play a little together but not enough to warrant us losing because of it like your original post seemed to suggest.

watch some games this year please.

He started a few games at PF but I was talking about different lineups and rotations where Nelson put him out there as a PF. He spent more time on the floor at PF than he did at SG. But who knows who will be starting this year cause you never know what Nelson will do and the lineup could change on a daily basis.

You right playing them together won't be enought to warrent them losing it will just add to the already list of problems that they have. The teams defense as a whole and mostly individually is horrible.

I watch them play and will watch them play some this year. Don't get me wrong they are fun to watch but when it comes to playing defense and winning games they aren't good at it. Thier coach and style of play is not going to lead to many at all this year. I say that top out at around 40 wins at best.
