things that dont show up in the box score

this is my list so far:

    Offense:
    Good Shot Selection
    Bad Shot Selection
    Buzzer Beater
    Hockey Type Secondary Assist
Created For Team Mate(not always an assist)
    Defense:
    Forced Miss
    Let Man Score
    Forced Turnover
    Bad Foul

i know there is also locker room things, and being a coach on the floor, but that is a little harder to track. i'm looking for things that are measurable. that is a KEY component of research, it has to be measureable. if you can add to this list i'd love to hear it!

I guess there are also penalties like kicked balls that stop the flow of possession and can be either good or bad depending on the instant.

    More hustle plays:
    -Keeping a ball in play
-Calling a timeout to save a turnover or jump ball
    -Forcing a jump ball
-Tipping a potential rebound back to the point
    -Steal assist

For steal assists, I mean the times when a defender tips a ball in the passing lanes and knocks it down though another player, the one who picks up the ball, gets credited with the steal. Buzz Williams, the coach of Marquette, counts tipped balls (with the help of his assistants, of course). They track the data and use it to study the defensive pressure and reward good execution on defense, even if it does not result in a steal. So tipped balls in general are a good measure of defense that are not reflected in the box score.

u think that might fit in the good shot selection/bad shot selection category?

if not what do you consider to be a ball stopper? how can that be measured?

Shinyhubcaps already talked about it, but tipped passes is a big one that I think should be looked at. Too many players get steals simply because a teammate pokes a ball away or tips a pass and it lands in another teammate's hands. The player who actually caused the turnover gets no credit for it.

you think that might fit in the forced turnover category? or do you think tipped passes should be tracked even when they don't result in a turnover?
