Well, this is possible if both Howard and Payton take pay cuts, which I think they are planning to do anyways. Howard has expressed interest in the Lakers, and that would mean him taking the mid-level exception (rumored to be around $4.9 million this year). And Payton would probably earn a bit more than that thru a sign-n-trade. Fisher and Horry's salary combined would probably be around the $6 to $7 million mark.

The Lakers are already over the cap, but teams are allowed to do this. The cap is just there so you can't keep adding big time players all the time. For instance, the Lakers can't sign JKidd or JO, cause they won't play for that much, and the Lakers only have the mid-level. A sign and trade doesn't work the same as just signing a free agent. Trading players work if the players involved have salaries within 15% of each other. So, that's how GP could earn more than just the mid-level.

I beleve these moves would strengthen the Lakers weaknesess of PG and PF. It would make us better defensively and offensively. While it won't get us any younger, it will add some more athleticism.

I beleive the need to get rid of horry and get a strong defensive power foward one who mis not afraid to go against people like c-webb and rasheed wallace
and leave the crunch time scoring to kobe & shaq

Fish and Horry need to go. There comes a time when no matter how much you like a player that its time for him to go. Rob has hit big shots, and with one shot saved the season during the 2002 championship season. But as a whole, his game has deteriorated. He saves himself for the playoffs, but even that didn't work this year. I hope he signs with Houston, and gets a chance to finish his career with the team he started with.

C - Shaquille O'Neal

Bench
Brian Shaw, Jannero Pargo, Kareem Rush, Rick Fox(injured), Luke Walton, Brian Cook, Slava Medvedenko, Mark Madsen

I think that this team could compete for the title, especially if Shaq comes back under 400 lbs, better yet, 350 lbs.

Dang shaq was 400 lbs!?! that guy needs to get on a non carb diet or something. Anyway, how is that team possible?? GP and Howard?! And with Kobe going on free agency the next year, Its hard to believe they will have the cap to do this.

You're joking right? Put the biggest guy in the league on Shaq, and he still makes him look like a shriump. Saying he's 345 is a joke. That guy has to be twice the size of any PF you know that plays.
