**** I hate double rims. DC is right though, if you can shoot you really shouldn't have to hate them but I guess we're all throwing up bricks when we play, lol.

After the all-star game in Vegas they could be shooting into peach baskets and it would be superior. Those rims at Thomas and Mack had to be the worst rims ever used in a NBA game so i doubt that these'll be any worse.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

I played with plenty of double rims, although I must admit, I'm definitely a streak shooter, so I never had a big problem with what the rims were.

In either case, after all the stuff they have done to favor the offense, it's about time they give the defense something.

Double rims are the reason 5 on 5 pickup games to 11 last over 30 minutes at the playground. Especially when you have goof troops on the court thinking they're Steve Kerr.

Balls will be going in the hoop and bouncing back out a lot...

I'm no kind of top tier basketball player, but one thing I CAN do is shoot. I suck it up on double rims. But if you can shoot, you can shoot on double rims...so no advantage to the defense, right?

Well, there are players in the NBA who cannot shoot, though...like LeBron.

Natural shooters like Rey Allen, Ben Gordon, and any other natural sniper will have no problems.

The reason playground rims have no give is because there are no springs. Nothing really to do with the thickness of the rim. You can actually adjust the tightness of the rims by tightening the springs (or whatever they are called).

Do your cities playground rims have nylon strap like things instead of chains or nets?

When I moved to Columbus first time I ever saw those things.

Well there's no "shooter's roll" on double rims. I despise double rims too. Was there really an issue with the older rims? After making rule changes over the last decade to make offense and scoring easier, is this how it's supposed to even out?

Re: Stern is switching the rims

J.R.'s on the right track. I'm not trying to say I know a lot about basketball rims but, these rims the NBA has introduced are not your park's double rims. As J.R. mentioned, the drop in shooting accuracy associated with park rims has a lot more to do with lack of give or spring in the bucket (i.e. they're not breakaway rims).

These rims are going to be a lot more like the ones they've had in the past than anything you see on the playground. In fact, the biggest visible difference is going to be the way with which the rims now breakaway to the sides as well. It definitely changes the look of dunks from the baseline.

I don't know the specifics (name of company who made the rims) but I know these types (doubled with side breakaways) have been in use at a number of division one colleges over the past decade. I have played on these types of rims at the University of Michigan and as I have mentioned, there's not a whole lot of difference in regards to shooting. If anything, the multi-angled breakaway makes them feel a little bit softer.

Again, the NBA version may be different than the college brands altogether, but if they are indeed the same, they seem to breakaway easier than old standard NBA rims as well. Plus, if these rims were really an issue, I'm not sure John Beilein's "bombs away" offense would have been nearly successful as it was last year.

With all that said, I'm curious as to the reasoning behind the switch.

Stern couldn't get his rubber toy store ball into the league, so he is trying to stick it to everyone with these double rims. I can't wait to hear what Shaq says about this.
