Yeah I heard these have been in use all pre-season, and I haven't noticed anything strange.

So predicting lower shooting percentages is going overboard.

Yeah there were pictures in the original article (right at the beginning) that showed them in use during pre-season. I really wouldn't worry about it -- like others have said, the main problem with double rims as we know them is that they aren't springy at all... since these are breakaway in the normal sense and now also from the side, I imagine that they'd be as soft of softer than the old NBA rims.

      Get 'em Melo.

Correct. Other basketball divisions, levels, and leagues have used these rims for years. To make any real comparison between these rims and the ones you see at the park is completely misguided.

The baseline dunks will look a little weird at first and these rims may in fact be softer than the previous versions.

Meh...its a rim, same circumference, same deminsions, not a big deal. It would be different if they put a Jordan Jammer out there.

I believe Line drive shooters may have to adjust plus if shots arent falling it will mean more attacking the rim which means either more fouls per game or more points in the paint this year.

Why do they make such horrible hoops at the parks? Is it to safe money and make sure the hoop stays durable? Cuz the backboard is basically a huge scrap of metal...And you know they have steal rims with bouncy material on the outside.

I would say durability is indeed the reason you see those double rims at parks across America. Single rims, breakaway rims, or glass backboards are just asking for trouble on public outdoor courts. They would be bent, broken, or shattered in 40 days or less.

People at my court will complain all day about the double rims, but I'm thankful we've had a pair of goals that have been standing for over 10 years and are just as strong and level as they were when they were installed.

I'm actually one of the few who enjoy outdoor double rims, as I feel it perfects my shot. Generous or favorable rims will often make you think you took a good shot when you really didn't. If I'm hitting on the outdoor buckets, I know my stroke is pure.

I'll end by once again stating that the outdoor double rims and new NBA rims have virtually nothing in common (aside from being orange-ish in color and round).
