Im still trying to figure out what Lebron has to do with the thread. THAT'S the reason he can't never be talked about because the "usuals" always somehow find some way to bring him into a Kobe thread with the "usual" lines/phrases/etc when he has nothing to do it.
Has Kobe Bryant finally hit the wall?

Re: Has Kobe Bryant finally hit the wall?
This is because he's been in the triangle for 13 years and he's taking closer shots. Also the lakers haven't played nobody. The best team they played was the Mavs and they lost. Everything kobe has learned in regards to maturity has been because of Phil jackson's teaching and studying MJ's game religiously. He has great footwork in the post, but you also have to keep in mind that the bench has been playing lights out without bynum.
Kobe is a great player, but he's not better than wade and lebron at this point in his career. He has a better/deeper team than both though. Cleveland's front line is prehistoric. And Mike Brown has no clue how to run and offense. 2005 is a perfect example of kobe playing better more effecient ball in the triangle. That year even before he got hurt, was only shooting like 42%from the field out of the triangle.
For lebron 2 lead that cavs team last year to the best record in the league was truely amazing. And is playoff run was also better than kobe's. Kobe just has the better team, is in a better offense, and plays for the greatest coach in the history of basketball.
Just my opinion. But once again to answer the op's question, kobe has not hit a wall. He's playing some of the best ball of his career. He's finally matured as a basketball player.Last edited by magicman32; 11-11-2009, 08:11 PM.Comment

Thing is the guy who made the comment had about 60 something posts. Not exactly a usual.Im still trying to figure out what Lebron has to do with the thread. Matrix can say "Kobe is the best basketball player in the National Basketball Association" and it's fine... but then someone else says "No, I think LeBron is," and then you see posts like I mentioned. On top of that, the guy who made the LeBron posts gets an infraction for cursing, when you can go through any number of this threads on the front page of the BBall forums and find the same thing with no infractions (including this one http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2040434324 )
Just an interesting observation. But, back to the topic of praising Kobe and not pointing out any negatives he might have in his game.Comment

Re: Has Kobe Bryant finally hit the wall?
Why is it so amazing that the Cavs had the best record? His role players played outstanding during the regular season, just like the Lakers did. Not to mention they only had the best record by ONE GAME. It's not like his team ran away with it or anything. It really was no more amazing than any team that leads the league in wins. This is because he's been in the triangle for 13 years and he's taking closer shots. Also the lakers haven't played nobody. And to say LeBron is better because Kobe has good coaching is honestly so silly. Obviously good coaching has made Kobe a better player, better even than LeBron. If you said something like "with good coaching, LeBron could be better than Kobe", sure, but to say Kobe isn't as good as LeBron because he's learned more in his time in the NBA is pretty dumb.NFL: Bills

Re: Has Kobe Bryant finally hit the wall?
I wasn't talking about him when I mentioned the "usuals".
Because what Matrix said actually has SOMETHING to do with the topic at hand. Meanwhile, the "Lebron has a ***** team around him" has what to do with the topic again?
As for your last comment, you can apply that to Wade, Dwight, AI, and Lebron so please don't make it seem like it's the Kobe topics only when that's not the case at all.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Has Kobe Bryant finally hit the wall?
I'll just add it's amusing to read posts that make it seem like Kobe has had Andrew and Pau together at the same time for complete seasons and playoff runs.
Or try to say Phil is the reason for Kob's skillset.
Why can't we simply assess Kobe's skills?Comment

Re: Has Kobe Bryant finally hit the wall?
I don't understand how people say Lebron is better than kobe. Kobe is clearly the better player. Yes at this point in his career Lebron has more points than kobe but look at this. Every year lebron has been in the league (5 full and this season will make it six) he has registered 3000+ minutes including leading the league in minutes twice. Kobe bryant has played 3000 minutes 5 times in his 14 year career. not only that but Kobe did not start 70+ games until his 6TH year in the league. Lebron started 79 in his first year. So stats wise give kobe lebrons amount of minutes in his first 5-6 years and kobe is torching lebron in the stat category. Lebron's game is only better than kobe's in two aspects driving the lane and rebounding. thats it

Re: Has Kobe Bryant finally hit the wall?
I can agree with that. That's all we can really do when we're comparing two players in completely different situations, as far as teammates go.
Have you ever thought of the possibility that LeBron was playing more minutes and starting more games because he was a better player than Kobe was at the same age?I don't understand how people say Lebron is better than kobe. Kobe is clearly the better player. Yes at this point in his career Lebron has more points than kobe but look at this. If Kobe was as incredible as you make him out to be, why wasn't he starting over Eddie Jones, or at least starting next to him? I'm pretty sure an 18 year old LeBron James who was averaging 20, 6 and 6 could have found minutes or even a starting spot on 18 year old Kobe's Lakers squad.
Looking at career numbers (averages, not totals), Kobe's career minutes come out to 36.9 mpg and LeBron's come out to 40 mpg. LeBron averages 2.3 more ppg, 1.7 rpg, 2.1 apg, 0.3 bpg, 0.3 spg, and shoots 1.6% better from the field in those 3 extra minutes.
Break it down parallel individual season by individual season, 18 year old Kobe with 18 year old LeBron and so on, and statistically LeBron beats Kobe every year so far. Basketball is not all stats, but LeBron beats Kobe in all basic statistics except FT% (10%), 3 pt% (2%) and TOPG (0.4). That alone has to add some legitimacy to the debate.
Sorry, this isn't a Kobe vs. LeBron thread (even though it looks like it's turning into one), just saw some flaws in that logic.
As far as Kobe hitting a wall, no he hasn't. He's improving in skill areas while declining in athleticism, the strange twilight zone of a 30+ shooting guard's prime. Eventually his athleticism will get to the point where his skills won't be able to carry him anymore, but not for at least 2 years. We're seeing facets of his game take off, like his post moves, but he's not as aggressive to the rim as he was in year's past because of his age.Comment

Re: Has Kobe Bryant finally hit the wall?
Has Kobe Bryant hit the wall?..yeah, the wall of greatness. lol, dude givin dudes 30+ a night at age 31. I'm more of a Wade fan but i'm lovin that he hasn't fell off. There are few players in the league now who are competitive. Most jus want the check or their one ring. It's the dudes who really wanna prove that their the best, every season. Only players who match that is duncan, kobe, chris paul, and wade.Comment

Re: Has Kobe Bryant finally hit the wall?
All fanboyism and what-not aside, he's peaked.
That isn't to say he won't repeat last year for two more years, but it's highly unlikely he will top it.
He's 31 ... and no matter how great he is, even Kobe Bryant can't fight the human body.
As you get older, your body doesn't utilize oxygen the same way. No matter how fit you are, that doesn't change.Comment
