He'll get a ring by being a sellout. Not an accomplishment to be proud of, IMHO. But I have no doubt the Lakers are going to win the championship next year. At least their run was broken and they won't four-peat just yet, if ever.

A sellout? Because he wants a ring? Thats a dumass comment. He wanted to come to LA and he accepted less to come to LA. Whats wrong with that?

The Lakers sure are going to be very dangerous if this goes through. Lets just see if these four can play together as a team. I think they probably will though, because Phil is pretty good at keeping people in line.

Im Stoked...(i cant believe i just used that word)....the lakers just added 40 ppg, 12rpg, 13 apg for about 6.5million dollars....Im sorry but thats the best bargain i've seen in awhile....

note: obviously, their stats will and should go down next year, but the quality that will be spread across the lineup even towards the bench would be significant.

Personally, I would have preferred it if it was just payton and another role player was added....but this is just fine too.

Ken Bikoff: (5:32 PM ET ) I think it could be extraordinarily dangerous for the Lakers to have that much talent on the starting lineup. I don't think it makes the Lakers a lock to win the title because you could run into a Trail Blazers-type of situation. Too many stars and not enough role players. Will Payton defer to Kobe in the crunch? Will Malone, if he signs, be willing to be the third or fourth option on offense? Will Shaq be able to get along with all three? Will Payton and Malone pick up the triangle offense quickly? There are a lot of questions with that type of lineup. They would be the favorites to win, but by no means a lock.

I kinda agree with that. All 4 of these guys are going to need to check their egos for the entire season. They will need to work together and respect each others game.

Is it not true? If your in a band and you arent signed and have a good fan base, and then you go to a huge label for millions of dollars, you'd be caled a sell out for taking more money.

So if Payton takes less money....how is he selling out? He wants a ring...do you blame him?
