I don't know about multiple rings for sure cause if Kidd signs with the Spurs they could be serious contenders with the Lakers. Especially if they can manage to resign Manu next year and he has a lot of potential.

Re: Gary Payton agrees to be a Laker....
Just wondering something. If the Lakers put this team together, and if it is successful, have they put the future on hold for "right now", seeing Payton is getting older, and Malone has but about 1 yr left in his career? Once they are gone, what can the Lakers do to keep Kobe for the long term, because Shaq will be out not long after?Comment

Re: Gary Payton agrees to be a Laker....
That's definitely something to consider down the road. They will just be back in the same situation they are in now. So, it's not really a step back. They have their rookie that they can develop. And when Shaq and Payton and Malone all leave, that'll create a whole lot of cap space. Then the Lakers can go after other big name players. Either that or start sucking for a couple of years and draft well.
This is the solution for right now tho, and it looks pretty good to me.Comment

The Lakers have just basically guaranteed at least the next two championships, maybe more. It's worth it.Comment

Re: Gary Payton agrees to be a Laker....
They very well could have. It's possible they haven't, but I'll have to see it myself to believe it. The East is looking more horrible by the day. The West is getting considerably stronger, and I think guys like JO will regret signing on a weaker conference team, while the truth remains, he would have a better chance at winning somewhere in the West.Comment
