Yeah, but that doesn't matter. It just almost seem like desperation to me. It's pretty sick to give up his number for Malone or anyone else. You won't see Aingge giving Birds number to anyone, or Paxson giving Mj's # to anyone, not will you see POP giving DR's # 50 to any other center ot TD for that matter.

Malone cheated the Lakers out of the playoffs for years, started the ignorance that forced Magic to permanently leave the game, and now he's coming to LA, and taking Magics #

Not quite sure I follow you. Ainge couldn't give Bird's number away. Bird would have to do it. Same thing with Jordan's number. The Laker's aren't giving Malone #32. Magic is offering Malone #32. IMO it's a nice gesture on Magic's part, but I don't think it's going to make or break Malone's decision to go to the Lakers. So to me it's not "desperation." It's kind of just sweetening the deal.

As I said in another thread, ANYONE wearing a Lakers 32 jersey is committing basketball blasphemy.
Magic Johnson is the greatest player of all-time IMO and the #32 should stay up in the rafters where it belongs.

And it bothers me that Magic would come out and say this seeing that it was Karl Malone who was most critical of Magic when Magic came back to play with HIV.

All this anger toward Magic is confusing,

Magic put the work in, Magic won the titles, Magic bled, sweated and cried for the team, Magic brought "Showtime" to the Lakers. Basically, Magic EARNED the right to do whatever the heck he wants to with his number.

Plus, its not like he's offering it to some unproven youngster FA. He's "lending" the number to one of the greatest basketball players of all-time (I hate his country-***,but I gotta' admit there hasn't been a forward in the league for the past 15+ that he hasn't taken to school)and soon to be scoring champ. Opinions aside, there isn't a person alive who has the right to second guess Magic on something he worked hard for the rights to.

How about giving it up for a guy who STILL cares enough about his former team to do something like this. Some guys could care less about the team once they hang it up....
