If the NBA retired 5 Jerseys...

So I was listening to Jordan's comments about Lebrons idea to retire number 23 forever and how he mentioned others that would have to be retired too.

Obviously no number is going to retired for good, but if you had to retire the Jersey number of five guys in the history of the league, which ones would be retired under your watch and why?

    Jordan - Best ever
Chamberlain - Nobody has ever been so dominant at a professional sport
    Russell - Championships.
Abdul-Jabbar - Most points has to get you something, right?

The last one is where I struggle. I want to give it to Bird or Magic, considering what they did for the game in the 80's. I guess if I had to pick one, i'll go Bird, for no reason at all.

          Not players, just numbers

23, 33, 6, 13, and whatever number you want to retire for Nat Clifton.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

Mikan redefine the role of the big man in the NBA. He is the foundation for all other big men.

Oscar Robertson (The Big O) He did everything well. The first big guard that could pass, score, and rebound.

Russel: The greatest winner in American team sports. The ultimate leader and winner.

Kareem is one of the players some try to remove out of history. The most dominant offensive force in the history of the NBA. If there is a short list of greatest players ever, Kareem is close to the top.

Jordan/Magic/ Bird is a toss up. Magic/Bird saved the NBA. Laid the foundation for all that followed. I might give the edge to Magic because of the 5 championships team during a very competitive 80's. Bird played in the best conference in the 80's and the grind to make the finals was much harder than Magic and no one stop Bird. Then you have Jordan who took the game global and dominated the 90's.

            Peace

Exactly what I was thinking. But, I really hope none of them gets retired league wide. I think it would be a bad move for the NBA. I disagree with the NHL for retiring Gretsky's, but I do agree with MLB for retiring Robinson's.

Retired for the worst years of professional basketball.

None of them should be retired in my opinion. I would like to request something else though. Could the Hall of Fame please start honoring defensive players if they are honoring guys who scored and did nothing else impactful?

As the longtime logo of the NBA (and legend in his own right), might Jerry West hypothetically deserve such an honor?

Please tell me how that is anywhere close to being true?? He might have had the best go to move but in no way, shape, form, or fashion was he the most dominant offensive force in history. The man only topped 30 PPG three times in his career. Do you not remember Wilt?? Now he dominated the game. The man put up 50 a game for an entire season. That will never come close to being done again. Jordan also was a far more dominant offensive player than Kareem. His 10 scoring titles and all time record of 30 PPG speaks for itself.

I with this. None of them should be retired league wide. Jackie Robinson is the only jersey that should have a league wide retirement in any sport.

and Kareem ended up with more points than both Jordan and Wilt.

I knew you was going to bring that lame argument back. The only reason why he had more points than them is cause he played in 500 more games than both of them. That is equal to over 6 more years. If you played six more years than somebody you should score more points. You look at thier carrer averages and Wilt and Jordan are both over 30 and rank number one and two all time. Kareem on the other hand is at 24.6 and 15th all time. That doesn't sound like the most dominant offensive player in history to me.

So I guess by you argument then Karl Malone was more dominant than Jordan and Wilt too seeing as how he score more total points as well?? Or Robert Parish was a better scorer than Larry Bird seeing as how he score more points. See how foolish that sounds??
