    New Jersey v LA

It's good for the NBA that Kidd is staying and ZO is coming. We NEED a super team out East to balance things up.

The signing of ZO is huge for the Nets. Instantly they have a post up scorer...

Kidd had to do most of the post up play last season, and that's too taxing on a PG's body...especially when he has to do everything else.

Not only that, ZO gives them an intimidator...and he will absolutely revitalise Mutumbo. Remember, those two consdier themselves brothers. They are very, very close...so you can imagine how this will lift Mutumbos spirits. He was clearly not game fit in the finals...but still played well.

Addd in that K-Mart and Jefferson will improve, K-mart BIG time IMO now that the "Kidd worry" is gone...and that's a championship team IF they can add a shooter.

They could even match up with LA:

Kidd v GP = ADV Kidd
RJ v KB = ADV Kobe
K-Mart v Karl = ADV K-Mart now is better than Karl at 40.
ZO / Mount Mutumbo v Shaq = ADV Shaq

Notice that the ADV isn't too significant in any position.

If NJ could add a shooter for the SF position...look out.

I agree with you, this New Jersey team is now very talented this year. They have a very well balanced roster, and I think they could really do some damage.

Kobe has a huge advantage over RJ while GP is barely behind Kidd. I would pick the Lakers to win a series 4-1 if they did play because Shaq is going to be in shape and Zo is to small and who knows if Zo is going to play the whole season?

That's the key point right there...they finally have a well balanced roster, which they haven't had.

Add a shooter...even a Glen Rice, John Barry type, someone who can hit a few 3 balls in a hurry...and they'd look great.

I also think they'll cruise through the East...while LA / SA / Sac , whoever comes out of the west, will have a lot of war scars.

Yes, I am basing this on a fit ZO.

He has always played Shaq well though...

Having him inside also gives them the luxury of playing K-Mart on Kobe in defense at times.

They have the exact same roster as last year with the exception of Zo and Zoran Planinic. How are they so much better? I don't see the Nets making progress to compete with the west....that was the point...right? Or is it just to have the ability to show up again at the finals, that I believe they accomplished.
If Zo can stay healthy, the best he will give is limited minutes which "may" make a difference and no one knows what Zoran can do. They done enough to sign Kidd, and compete in the east to get back to the finals but not actually win. Zo in his hayday I might agree the Nets would be contenders. However, you don't know how many minutes he can give or how productive he can be. He missed an entire year, and his health is uncertain. Zo is a huge risk for any team and was such a big free agent because even at 60% or the risk of another missed season, Zo is better than the majority of centers available this year. Much as I like Zo, that isn't anything to crow about
