    Highest B-Ball IQ?

I don't agree with that top five at ALL. And it's absolutely criminal that the two guys who I think are the smartest in the game aren't even on this list--Tim Duncan and Grant Hill.

I understand Kobe, Kidd and Nash. I'd definitely put Duncan in there above Paul and Bron though.

I would say Kidd is the smartest, but WTF, where is Duncan?! It's not like he had immense talent and got by through superior athletic ability.

Well if it is indeed results of a poll of players and coaches opinions, I think it has more validity than random folks. These guys have direct contact with the players listed and obviously know more about them than we do... because let's face it, most of OS is pretty much an armchair critic who will cry foul if a player the consider to be top tier isn't mentioned.

Case in point, the posts above ^^^.

lol'd hard at Grant Hill? On top of dismissing my claim that he's AT LEAST as smart as the 7, 8 names mentioned in that article, you give absolutely no reasons to think otherwise, and your post insinuates that he's not even close to being a smart player in any way, shape or form.

            How....ridiculous.

              Re: Highest B-Ball IQ?

Also receiving votes were Carmelo Anthony, Deron Williams and Dwyane Wade.

              Really?

I wouldn't put Duncan in the top 5, but he's definitely top 6 or 7. Seems like it's unfair to big men since guards obviously handle the rock a lot more and make the decisions.

Carmelo shouldn't be in the discussion. One day he may really "get it" but not yet.

I also have to assume that this discussion has too much to do with skill than IQ. Some inferior players may have better IQ but don't have the ability to showcase it in their play.

Call me crazy, but I feel like Rasheed Wallace has a very high basketball IQ. Great, heady post defender, smart offensive player. He knows when to abuse his man in the paint, he knows when to camp on the outside, and he knows when to fall back and ride the hot teammate.

I think that list is spot on. All of those guys on there are the primary decision makers on their squads and extensions of their coaches, well not in Brons case as he is pretty much the coach. They are guys who you see pointing out nuances to young players and getting upset at vets for mental lapses.

LBJ's a good passer and unselfish but his bball IQ is mad overrated. If I see dude try to curl one more screen when the defender goes under the screen I'm gonna . His fundamentals have improved tremendously since coming into the league but like Melo he's not there yet.

Can't argue with Kobe being up there despite his shot selection, Kidd and Nash are no brainers. If I had to pick one I'd say Nash, but of course people will argue with his defensive issues.

LeBron is also not all that brilliant when it comes to offense. He can find the open guy and has great vision, but he is a ball stopper and still doesn't know how to utilize a pick properly when he doesn't have the ball.

I immediately thought Duncan was a lock. Why am I wrong?

He might not handle the rock, but he positions himself perfectly almost everytime in the post. Whether it be for a oreb/dreb or a bucket. His skill in using the glass shows a HUGE amount of IQ, just on how much touch to put on the shot, the trajectory etc.

What a gaff not having Duncan on the list.

                              I would say Billups

The guy stops the ball too much and plays out of control when he really has no business doing so.
