Not really. The biggest contributors to that Lakers team outside of Kobe and Gasol where Odom, Bynum, Ariza, and Fisher. None of those guys are euro players at all. The only other Euro guy on the squad besides Gasol got him minutes cut into by Shannon Brown come playoff time and is pretty much a bench rider now.

You realize, of course, that the Spurs, Lakers, and Mavericks have utterly dominated the Western Conference for the past several years. And all three teams have international players as either the #1 or #2 option on the team. They're certainly doing a lot better than most "Americans Only" teams.

Like i said in the part you conveniently left out of your quote i said it was a generalisation and that there are exceptions. With that being said the Mavs led by Dirk were beaten by an "American only" team when it mattered most and you take Kobe and TD off the Lakers and Spurs (not too mention the fact they have the best coaches in Phil and Pop) and they aren't winning titles anytime soon. Besides those few examples the majority of Euro's are considered soft and many play matador defense.

Yeah I really didn't understand that comment at all.

They had Sasha and Pau. That's about it. Sasha barely contributed to their title.

Edit: NM he said Euro-style players. Still not sure if I agree with that. Ariza, Odom, Fisher, Farmar, Brown don't scream "Euro" to me.

How is Odom not a Euro player? He is a 7 footer who faces up people...

Ariza isn't that different than any other spot up shooter. Defensively he was great but so is Kirelenko (who is the player I would of compared him to).

Fisher is a spot up shooter who cannot break people down off the dribble.

If by European you simply mean nonathletic then I might agree with you but the roles of those guys played and their games in the triangle offense were basically Euro style.

When i say Euro i mean exactly that: they are from a European country.

"euro style player" is whole nother thing. Generally the sterotype is tall, white, great jumper shooter, not very athletic, poor defensively.

I think what the OP means by "Euro-style player" is jump shooters who aren't good defenders.

I wonder if Toronto would deal Bosh before the trade deadline to get something for him...

some proposals i'd love to see..

                          Noah, Hinrich, 1st

Hickson, Big Z 2 1sts , but gotta take back a bad contract like Hedo, Marcus Banks or Calderon

                          Beasley, Chalmers 2nd

heck i'd even do it for Okafor, Peja and Collison as long as they would take back some of our bad deals.

Trading Bosh is the perfect time for this team to rebuild well by youth or getting rid of some of Colangelo's mistakes I.E. 9 million for Calderon, 10+ million for Hedo etc.

Odom is not a euro style player. Odom is a prime example of a american street ball player. He get his style of play from the NY streets. He is known as the goods from there not the NBA. Let's also not forget Odom came into the league as a SF running the point forward for the Clipps. The point forward role was started here in America. He was suppose to beat people of the dribble and set up plays. He never was a PF until he came to LA.

Ariza isn't a spot up shooter. He attacks the basket as well. He is more of a slasher than a spot up shooter. AK is Russian and I don't consider him a euro stype player at all.

Offensively now Fisher might just be a spot of shooter but he is still considered a tough smart vet. He will do all the lil dirty tricks on the defensive end and will constantly try and draw charges. On the Lakers three peat he was known as the tough defensive guy. He just isn't physically capable of doing that now with the quick guards but he is far from a Jose Calderon.

I think it is a reach to say the Lakers where comprised of euro style players.

I'd love that too, though Shaq and Bosh would have to kiss and make up.
