I could have sworn Thomas was in the last year of his deal as well but this article states that Thomas would have around a 13 mil cap hit next year.
Thomas, 23, was the fourth pick in the 2006 NBA draft, and started to fulfill his promise with 10.9 points and 6.4 rebounds last season. Nevertheless, Chicago believes it has a worthy power forward successor on the cheap in rookie Taj Gibson(notes), and jettisoning Thomas would also eliminate his approximate $13 million cap hold for the Bulls next summer.
I will have to check and see if there is any truth to that.

When it says that about Thomas, it means that his expiring counts for a 13 million cap hit. The cba is complicated as heck, but basically any player coming off a rookie scale contract still counts towards the cap. I think it's the last year of his contract x 200% or something like that.

Yea, that about Wade and Chicago have sense. If he, which i doubt, leaves Miami, i also think Chicago would be his option not some Knicks, Nets or even Cavs...
But i really think he'll stay put.

Thomas will make $6.3m next year.

Not necessarily. That's only his qualifying offer. A team must offer him that to aquire the right to match any contract he's offered.

Cap holds are better explained here: http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q29

A cap hold is $13 million because that is the max that the Bulls could offer him (if they wanted to sign him to a max deal). When a player is a restricted free agent, that cap hold counts against the team's salary cap. A team has to renounce their rights to the player in order to open up that cap room.

From what I've read Tyrus' contract goes to 2011 while James would come off the books this summer. I for one don't like the trade at all partly because I think Harrington is my favorite Knick at the moment. That and just the sight of James in Knick uniform again makes me cringe.

What I don't understand is why they would even take a contract past 2010. I know Lebron is a pipe dream at best as I think he stays in CLE. I can see Wade leaving MIA (not necessarily for NY) but there are also a ton of potential free agents that we can after.

I guess the question is Tyrus the answer for Mike D (whose time I think is limited in NY...if we get some good free agents and we continue to lose I give him a year, if not I give him 2 years).

Tyrus' contract expires this year. NY can trade for him, play him this season, then renounce his rights to reclaim cap space. Or re-sign him for less than his cap hold.

I think that will backfire in Chicago's face. They need to hit the draft and stop picking up dead weight to just sit the hell on the bench. Get rid of all the players who are eating up money. Jerome James is coming off which is great. I would at least like to do a little bidding for Tyrus to show his true worth. Who is a free agent after this year?

TT getting moved is bound to happen. It was bound to happen the day they drafted Taj Gibson. Right now he is a poor man's TT. Don't think he'll ever develop the shot blocking or athletism TT has though.

The Bulls need a guy like Al Harrington.

                              The Knicks need Thomas?

I don't understand this trade for the Knicks but I love it for the Bulls.

Somebody that can block shots, get rebounds, and play defense. That's what we need. We have plenty of guys that can fill the role of Al Harrington, trust me.
