Impact as in stats wise? or financial?

I think Yao will get more stats, especially under Van Gundy. I think LeBron will definitely make a bigger financial impact. Putting butts into the seats and selling jerseys. Tho 3 billion people are hard to contend with.

Tough one, cause Centers are so valuable especially in the West...But i'd probably still take 'Bron.

For this upcoming season, my guess would be Yao. Utah is now out of the playoffs and Houston will be the team to take their spot. I an curious to see what kind of effects Yao will have playing under the tutelage of Van Gundy and Ewing.

Cleveland is about two or three years away until they surround LeBron with some good veterans. LeBron will end up an all-star this year by votes but not by talent. Once he has a couple of years under his belt, then he will be making Kobe/Magic type impact on teams.

See, what I dont get is, is why the hell is Yao included in all these discussions as far as impact. Did he win ROY last year? No. Amare did. Now I know you might say, "this is a question about #1 picks" but please, the question SHOULD be Amare or LeBron.

It aggravates me how in the ESPY catagory for breakthrough performer I think it was, Yao was included but why? He didnt win ROY, why wasnt Amare in there?

                            Re: Yao or Lebron

I disagree about Yao. While both Amare and Yao had very good rookie campaigns, Yao should have been R.O.Y., or at the very least Yao and Amare could have been co-R.O.Y.s.

I personally think there was a minor Yao backlash because of all the publicity he recieved early in the season.

Yao and Amare averaged 13.5 points per, with Yao averaging less minutes and guards who at times played street ball and seemingly refused to pass him the ball.
                            Yao had more assists
                            more blocks
                            a higher field goal percentage
was a much better foul shooter

Now Amare did have more boards and his Suns beat out the struggling Rockets for the #8 seed in the west and that should be noted. Not to mention the fact that the margin by which Amare or Yao led the other in a given category was not too great in all cases except for free throw percentage.

Certainly more teams were gunning for Yao. He definitely hit the wall towards the end of the season. Yao is also adding muscle and Amare already had an NBA body like Lebron.

Another thing about Yao and Amare, they both had to make huge leaps into the NBA no doubt. Amare from highschool.

Yao had to adjust to a new country, league, language, culture, and the added pressure if being the #1 overall not to mention the fact that he did not attend a full training camp and the fact that he had played internationally for so many months straight.

I just think that Yao should have at least gotten his share of the R.O.Y. award. Of course winning or not winning the R.O.Y. is not the end of the world and they should both have outstanding if not great NBA careers, barring injury or other troubles.
